    • 07. Do food handlers ensure that food is protected from contamination (unless noted elsewhere)(Critical)?
      • It was noted that bait fish (raw/unprocessed/not for human consumption) were stored directly above food intended for human consumption, in the fridge behind the counter. Bait fish must be stored separately from food intended for human consumption to reduce cross contamination risks.
    • 21. Is the facility properly constructed and maintained in a state of good repair to allow for the safe and sanitary handling of food?
      • The flooring behind the counter in the food preparation area was noted to be in disrepair at time of inspection. This was discussed briefly with the operator on site.Operator advised they have contacted a repair person.

    • 03. Is all food in this facility fit for human consumption and not unwholesome, spoiled, or adulterated?
      • Mouldy pasta was noted in one of the cooler fridges. This was discussed with the operator on site, who set the product aside for management.Note: The green onions in the cooler were starting to wilt. Please ensure food products offered for sale are monitored.
    • 06. Are appropriate food handling practices and plans in place to ensure that food is handled in a manner that makes it safe to eat?
      • At time of inspection, there was a single use glove placed on a box of ice cream cones. The operator on-site indicated that they sometimes reuse the glove. It was discussed with the operator on-site to use a new glove each time they are handling food. The observed glove was discarded at the time of the inspection.

      • It was noted that bait fish (raw/unprocessed/not for human consumption) were stored directly above food intended for human consumption, in the fridge behind the counter. Frozen bait fish was also noted in a freezer in the customer area. This bait was stored next to ice cream products. Bait fish must be stored separately from food intended for human consumption to reduce cross contamination risks.
    • 21. Is the facility properly constructed and maintained in a state of good repair to allow for the safe and sanitary handling of food?
      • The flooring behind the counter in the food preparation area was noted to be in disrepair at time of inspection. This was discussed briefly with the operator on site.
    • 23. Is the facility maintained in a clean and sanitary condition?
      • Cleaning is needed for hard-to-reach areas. Including areas behind the counter such as under and behind the syrup trolley and behind the soft serve machine. As well as in the retail space, behind and under coolers. Small flies were also noted at the bottom of the Coldstream cooler with beverages, which will require cleaning.

      • Cleaning is needed for hard-to-reach areas in the retail area. Including under and behind the coolers along the walls of the retail space.

      • The following was found at the time of inspection:The following product was found to be past its expiry date. The operator removed the product from the shelf:- 1 can Aroy D coconut milk (EXP 2022/11/25)The following products were found to be past their best before dates. The operator removed these products from the shelves:- 1 can Brunswick Sardines (BB 2022/04/05)- 5 cans Clover Leaf Whole Baby Clams (BB SE 2022) - 2 containers fontaine sante Hummus (BB 2023/06/17)
    • 14. Does the facility have an adequate supply of potable hot and cold running water and is the water sampled at required intervals?
      • No recent water samples are on file. Quarterly water sampling is a condition of the facility's food handling permit. The requirement was discussed with the owner/operator and a sample will be submitted on November 21.
