- 16. Is the facility free of unapproved animals, vermin and/or insects (unless noted elsewhere), and maintained to prevent the entry or harbourage of pests?
- 1) Observed potential rodent activity in the building - several mouse droppings were seen on the kitchen counter. Picture of this was taken during the inspection. As discussed with Public Works, would recommend the purchase and installation of metal rodent traps and also more importantly ensuring there are no entry routes in the building and entrance/exit doors should be flush with the ground/concrete.2) Observed sticky fly paper hanging from kitchen ceiling and which was full of dead flies - picture of this was taken during the inspection. Our Department would discourage the use of this sticky paper in the kitchen area and would recommend the purchase/installation of a fly light control device (e.g. - similar to the device which is currently in place at the Ryley Community Hall kitchen).
- 19. Does the facility have a valid permit and does the facility operate in compliance with the conditions of that permit, or is the facility awaiting approval prior to operation?
- Observed expired 2024 - 2025 Food Handling Permit posted on the wall in the kitchen area - please ensure the food handling permit received via email is printed and posted. Our Department will email the 2025 - 2026 food handling permit for posting and note that the current food permit will expire end of July 2026 (will be receiving the 2026 - 2027 food permit soon).

- 21. Is the facility properly constructed and maintained in a state of good repair to allow for the safe and sanitary handling of food?
- 1) RE-paint concrete flooring in the kitchen component to ensure a smooth, light in color, and easily cleanable finish. Update on April 25, 2024: paint has been purchased only - waiting for the paint to be applied to the floor in this building.2) Recommend the replacement of the existing fluorescent ceiling light fixtures with LED to provide more adequate lighting to easier facilitate cleaning and to provide a more energy efficient alternative. If funds are available, would encourage the Village of Ryley to move forward with this replacement of existing light fixtures.
