    • 08. Do food handlers ensure that food is protected from contamination (unless noted elsewhere)(Non-Critical)?
      • A can of olives and two cans of pineapple were left open in the can. Canned food, once opened, must be transferred to a food-grade container to prevent leaching metals from the can. Food was transferred to a food-grade container.
    • 13. Are properly operating hand washing sink(s) accessible to food handlers, located in suitable areas, and stocked with appropriate hand washing supplies?
      • Staff bathroom contained a cloth towel. Cloth towels become a reservoir for bacteria and are not to be used for drying or wiping hands. Cloth towel was replaced with paper towel.
    • 16. Is the facility free of unapproved animals, vermin and/or insects (unless noted elsewhere), and maintained to prevent the entry or harbourage of pests?
      • A few mouse droppings noted along the back of the east wall. Reportedly the owner had caught one mouse earlier. All food equipment was pulled out, and the area was cleaned and sanitized with bleach.
    • 22. Are utensils and equipment maintained in a condition and a manner that ensures the safe handling of food?
      • A small hand mixer and a utensil on the shelf containing food debris buildup were removed to be cleaned and sanitized.

      • A low risk food item that was prepared at a location that does not have a food handling permit was displayed for sale at the bakery.

      • Cheese bread was displayed at room temperature.
    • 15. Is the facility free of a pest infestation?
      • An ant was detected crawling in the display case.

      • A monthly proactive Pest Control Inspection form is not completed.No pest control issues were noted at the time of inspection.
