What these findings mean

Health authorities word their findings differently, so we group them by what they mean for clients. In personal service settings like salons, spas and tattoo studios, higher-risk findings are the ones that could spread infection from one client to the next, through broken skin, blood or instruments that were not properly cleaned and sterilized.

• Pool and spa water qualityHigher risk

For pools, spas and splash pads, inspectors test disinfectant levels, pH and water clarity, and check safety equipment. Water that is not properly treated can spread skin, ear and stomach infections.

Recorded once on April 30, 2026. For example: All disinfectants used are approved and manufacturer’s instructions are followed (Chlorine bleach/sodium hypochlorite does not apply)
