- Eyelash services are performed with tweezers, which are considered semi-critical instruments as they may come into contact with mucous membranes. These require cleaning and disinfection using a high-level disinfectant (HLD). The operator explained that tweezers are currently cleaned with acetone and then placed in a device used for sterilization. However, this device is not an approved sterilizer, as it does not verify or maintain the required time, temperature, and parameters necessary for effective sterilization.Nail services utilize reusable nippers, clippers, and cuticle pushers, which are currently disinfected in the intermediate-level disinfectant Cavicide. As these tools may accidentally cut or puncture the skin, they are considered semi-critical instruments and therefore require HLD.At the time of inspection:No high-level disinfectant (HLD) was available on-site.No logbook tracking HLD use or testing was available.No test strips were available to verify the effectiveness of the HLD.Action Required:Ensure proper cleaning and disinfection procedures are followed. Semi-critical tools must first be cleaned with soap and water (or acetone if visibly clean for tweezers), rinsed, and thoroughly dried to prevent dilution of the HLD. They must then be fully submerged in an approved high-level disinfectant, following the manufacturer’s instructions for the required contact time. After disinfection, instruments must be rinsed, dried, and stored in a clean manner (e.g., wrapped in a clean towel or kept in a dedicated, closed container) to protect them from environmental contamination.Acquire an approved High level disinfectant.Maintain a logbook to document the use and testing of the high-level disinfectant.Acquire and use appropriate test strips to verify the effectiveness of the high-level disinfectant daily, in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions, for up to 14 days re-use.

- July 23, 2024:Inspection occurring during client service in the nail room - PHI unable to identify sharps container.Previously:An appropriate sharps container was observed to not be immediately accessible in the nails room at the time of inspection. A glass container with a lid containing sharps was observed. Please ensure that an appropriate sharps container is used to store used sharps.
