We visited Pound Steak last night and had a mixed experience overall. The pricing felt fair for what’s offered and it’s not overly expensive, which makes it accessible for a casual dinner. That said, the quality of execution fell short in several areas. We ordered two ribeye steaks cooked medium well. One came out nicely done with a good balance of texture, but the other arrived closer to well done. We brought this up to the server, who checked with the kitchen and explained that the cut was thinner, so it ended up more cooked than intended. While that may be true, this is something the kitchen should anticipate. Adjusting cook time for thinner cuts or informing guests ahead of time would have been a better approach. The lobster carbonara looked impressive in photos, but unfortunately did not deliver. The lobster was overcooked to the point where the texture became rubbery and tough, lacking the natural tenderness you would expect. It felt like a dish with strong visual appeal but missed on execution. On a more positive note, the dinner set includes a choice of curry or miso soup, both of which we enjoyed. The meal also comes with plain rice and salad, making it feel complete and good value for the price. The miso glazed sablefish was good, supported by quality ingredients. However, it could have been elevated further if the glaze had more depth and aroma, with better integration between the sauce and the fish. It felt slightly one-dimensional, though still enjoyable. For dessert, we tried the matcha tiramisu and the matcha crème brûlée. The crème brûlée was well executed with a nice texture and finish. The tiramisu, however, was disappointing. The yuzu layer in the middle was frozen solid, which disrupted the texture entirely. It felt like biting into a popsicle in the middle of what should be a smooth, creamy dessert. Overall, Pound Steak offers decent value and some good elements, but consistency and execution need improvement to match the expectations set by their menu and presentation.

My wife and I were looking for authentic japanese style steak house, and found this place. The place is decorated with manga goods, giving me family restaurant vibe. We had 2 people course meal. Appies were okay. The Hamachi crudo was fresh and tasty. The ebi tempura was little salty. The steak and sauce came with it was amazing. Hamberg w/ cheese was okay to me but my wife loved it over the steak. Also the deserts were great as well. Too bad we couldn't try the Matcha Tiramisu as I heard it is their signature menu. But the lemon cake and creme brulee was amazing. Lastly their self serve curry and miso soup bar was something I loved as well. Definitely willing to visit more often when we go Richmond

This may not be prime beef, but what you pay for is definitely worth the value. The Galaxy combo is the perfect amount to celebrate Father's day. The interior is pretty cool with all the anime. The food is unique enough to want to come back and try more. If you're comparing this steak to Gordon Ramsey Steakhouse then you're as moronic as the people he criticizes. This isn't meant to compete. But it is an overall great experience

Food has deteriorated ! Lunch menu no more cold pop(because pop prices went up, she says), no more refillable rice, curry sauce, too. Only curry soup and miso soup left. Portion of meat also shrunk. My fried chicken was so-so today. My hubby's steak pound shrink and it came out cold. I asked if it changed hands or chef.... Appy (salty eggplant or cucumber? Bo one can tell) and side dish (i picked Japanese sausage) was very, very salty.

Usually flat iron wouldn't be my choice of steak, but if it's dry aged I would give a try. And it worked well! The steak doneness was nicely handled, although a little under seasoned. You are somewhat obligated to use the sauce because of that. The veggies (potatoes and carrots and broccoli) are also not seasoned. Kind of the standard procedure, but doesn't mean I need to like it. The restaurant offer limited rice with miso soup and curry sauce. I skipped the curry because I wanted to enjoy rice with steak flavor, but maybe I should have used the curry to dip the vegetables in.

Galaxy combo - the steak is juicy, but the Hamburg steak is super dry, it is so dry that even the sauce can't save it AAA Ribeye Steak 3/4 lb - asked for medium rare, but came with well done, and ultra thin 😖 Grilled Tuna Steak - nice grill with balance sauce Ajisai Wright & Peach Snow Sake - both r pretty drink and lovely The decorations in the store r wonderful, bring back lots memories

Disappointing for anyone expecting semi-authentic Japanese cuisine. This spot feels more like a Japanese-style café rather than an actual restaurant. One major issue: what’s labeled as Unagi on the menu is actually Anago (saltwater eel). That’s an important distinction — the flavor, texture, and richness are completely different. When I asked where the eel came from, it took four different staff members before someone could give me an answer. While the servers were friendly, they seemed unfamiliar with their own menu. Not to mention the incorrect information on their menu. The food itself is overpriced for the quality. The steak was the only dish that stood out, and even then, they were out of the strip steak I’d originally wanted. Service was slow, and the dishes came out one by one rather than together. I ended up ordering the chicken katsu curry, which was extremely disappointing. The rice was bland, the curry sauce was overly sweet, and much of the chicken was gristle and sinew. I also ordered the Takoyaki, which was drowned in sauce and no crunchiness of texture on the outside. If you’re looking for authentic Japanese flavors, this is not the place. It feels like a poor imitation of Japanese comfort food at fine-dining prices. A major disappointment overall.

Food was good! Well worth the price, because of the quality of the meat. We were worried about portion wise, but it was good enough. Unlimited refills of self-serve soups: miso and a specialty soup, and there's option for toppings to add to the soup. Note the soup is very hot! Parking is ok.
