    • 08. Is hand hygiene performed by the personal services worker when required, in a proper manner and are provisions available to perform hand hygiene?
      • Reusable gloves were observed during the inspection in a basket located in the color bar area. Upon inquiry, the operator confirmed that the gloves were being washed and reused. These gloves are designated for single-use only and were being used for applying hair color to clients. Education was provided, emphasizing that gloves must be single-use and changed between each client.
    • 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
      • The operator stated that they were using two capfuls to measure the Barbicide, which is not in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions for use and will not achieve the required disinfectant effect. The operator advised how the Barbicide solution was being prepared. Proper preparation, in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions, was then demonstrated. The required concentration was reviewed with the operator, and the solution was prepared together to ensure understanding and compliance. The operator was also recommended to use appropriate test strips to verify that the Barbicide solution is prepared at the required concentration each time it is made.
    • 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
      • The operator was advised to use a low-level disinfectant for disinfecting client contact surfaces such as chairs. Education was provided on how to identify appropriate disinfectants, including checking for a Drug Identification Number (DIN) on the product label.

      • The operator indicated that the small bowls used for eyebrow tinting were cleaned using only detergent and water. The operator was advised that these items must be properly disinfected between each client using a low-level disinfectant.
