- Used single-use nail files and buffers were observed at working stations. The staff present discarded the items during inspection.Please ensure used single-use items are discarded immediately after use and not re-used.

- - Observed high level disinfectant (Preempt CS20) had expired. High level disinfectant test strips were not observed.- High level disinfectant testing records were not being kept. A copy of the log sheet was given to the staff during inspection.Action items:1. Obtain a new bottle of high level disinfectant.2. Obtain high level disinfectant test strips.3. Use the log sheet provided during inspection to keep high level disinfectant testing logs. Poured high level disinfectant used at the facility must be tested each day used and record kept. When testing fails, the solution must be discarded. Poured solution should also be changed after 14days.

- An inappropriate sharps container was being used. An open thin plastic container was being used to store used sharps. Please obtain appropriate sharps container.

- 13. Is single-use or uncleanable equipment being used as intended (Critical)?
- A used single use nail file was observed in a drawer in one of the manicure/gel nail stations. One nail drill was also observed with a used bits still on it. The operator stated that staff probably forgot to throw them away. The staff also explained that each client receives a package of single use items, which are thrown out after use. Packages containing single use files, foam etc. were observed.Ensure that single use items are immediately discarded and not left at the workstation.
- 15. Is reusable equipment handled and stored properly (Critical)?
- Clean tools at the manicure/gel nail stations are not protected from contamination. The tools were covered in nail dust.ACTION REQUIRED;1) Ensure that clean tools are stored in a manner that protects them from contamination. Remove the clean tools on the manicure station and store them in a closet or drawer to protect them from contamination with nail dust. Only tools to be used on the client should be at the workstation.
- 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
- **The operator is not following the required contact time for PREempt CS20. The operator stated that the tools are soaked in the disinfectant for 10-15 minutes, but the manufacturer requires tools to be soaked for at least 20 minutes**The operator is not rinsing off the CS20 from the tools after disinfection. The operator stated that they just dry the tools with a towel and then packaged them for storage** Test strips for CS20 were observed. However, the operator is not maintaining daily logs of the CS20 reuse. Education was provided to the operatorFURTHER ACTION REQUIRED:1) Ensure that the tools are rinsed with water after soaking them in CS20 as per the manufacturer's instructions2) Ensure that tools are soaked in CS20 for at least 20 minutes as per manufacturer's instruction3) Ensure that you maintain test logs of the CS20 using the template provided at the time of the inspection. The CS20 solution shall not be used beyond a failed test and not used passed 14 days. The CS20 in the disinfection container shall be labeled with the 14 days reuse period.
