    • 16. Is the facility free of unapproved animals, vermin and/or insects (unless noted elsewhere), and maintained to prevent the entry or harbourage of pests?
      • 1. Facility did not have a pest monitoring program in place - no traps set & no written records available for review.Set traps and keep monthly records to monitor for potential activity.     • 19. Does the facility have a valid permit and does the facility operate in compliance with the conditions of that permit, or is the facility awaiting approval prior to operation?
      • The facility was operating in violation of the permit restrictions of "Prepackaged foods only", namely: --A West Bend large coffee maker was observed behind the cashier counter. A large tub of coffee mate & sugar were stored next to it. The facility had several sleeves of disposable cups.

    • 10. Are food temperatures during storage and processing being controlled to maximize food safety?
      • The "Milk & Dairy" cooler (south wall, retail area) containing Quality Food Subs, Hygaard subs, & milk was not equipped with a thermometer. ACTION REQUIRED: install a thermometer in the cooler. Monitor the cooler temperature daily.
    • 13. Are properly operating hand washing sink(s) accessible to food handlers, located in suitable areas, and stocked with appropriate hand washing supplies?
      • 1. The staff bathroom was not equipped with paper towel. Only bar soap was available (no liquid soap). 2. The public washroom was not equipped with soap or paper towel.ACTION REQUIRED: ensure all washroom hand sinks are equipped with liquid soap, paper towel, & hot/cold running water.

      • 1. Facility did not have a pest monitoring program in place - no traps set & no written records available for review.2. Stock and supplies in the back room were stored directly on the floor and disorganized making it difficult to monitor for pest activity.2. The back receiving door had a ~1 cm gap along the base (light visible).ACTION REQUIRED: ensure all doorways are tightly sealed (no light visible around the perimeter). Organize stock and remove any unneeded items/equipment. Set traps and keep monthly records to monitor for potential activity.       • 1. The food handling permit was not on display. 2. The facility was operating in violation of the permit restrictions of "Prepackaged foods only", namely: --A large tub of open candy (sour soothers) with a plastic fork was observed behind the cashier counter --A West Bend large coffee maker was observed behind the cashier counter. A large tub of coffee mate & sugar were stored next to it. The facility had several sleeves of disposable cups. Coffee was discarded at the time of the inspection.ACTION REQUIRED: Print & post the food handling permit on public display. Consult with EPH regarding changing the permit restrictions (if desired).

      • Stock behind the cashier counter was disorganized, for example, a large bag of sugar was stored next to ice melt directly on the floor. Stock in the back storage rooms was disorganized, namely cases of pop were stored directly on the floor and next to suitcases/luggage.ACTION REQUIRED: organize all stock so it is off the floor and kept in categories. Remove all unneeded equipment/items.
