What these findings mean

Health authorities word their findings differently, so we group them by what they mean for clients. In personal service settings like salons, spas and tattoo studios, higher-risk findings are the ones that could spread infection from one client to the next, through broken skin, blood or instruments that were not properly cleaned and sterilized.

  • Equipment and utensilsLower risk

Instruments, chairs, tables and footbaths must be made of materials that can be cleaned, kept in good repair and stored so they stay clean. Single-use items such as nail files, buffers, razors and needles must be thrown away after each client.

Recorded once on August 14, 2026. For example: Is the reprocessing area of a personal service facility that uses reusable equipment properly designed, managed and maintained to ensure the safety of clients?

    • 30. Is the reprocessing area of a personal service facility that uses reusable equipment properly designed, managed and maintained to ensure the safety of clients?
      • The proposed reprocessing sink is located in the laundry room. - Advised the operator that this arrangement is not acceptable, as equipment could become contaminated during the reprocessing process.- The operator indicated that hydrodermabrasion services will not be offered, as the device uses diamond tips that are classified as semi-critical equipment. Reprocessing of semi-critical equipment requires a plumbed sink.- As only non-critical services will be provided, the operator plans to use a mobile sink for non-critical equipment cleaning and handwashing.
