   • Reusable instruments are stored, handled, and maintained in good repair and sanitary condition (O.Reg. 136/18; Sec. 10(1)(a)) & Sec.10 (1)(b i-ii)).
     • Ensure all equipment is maintained in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions if available or as per directions of medical officer of health or public health inspector.
     • Keep manufacturer’s instructions, if available, on-site and accessible at premises where personal services are being performed.
   • Ensure all reusable equipment is cleaned and disinfected or sterilized as often as necessary to prevent disease transmission (O.Reg. 136/18; Sec.10(4)).
   • Equipment used for invasive services is provided, handled, and maintained in a sanitary condition and follows infection control best practices.
   • Procedures for invasive services follow infection control best practices.
     • Ensure the skin area to be treated is disinfected with an alcohol swab.
     • Discard disposable adapters after use on each client if they are used to hold the studs.
     • Do not handle sterile studs with bare hands.
     • Do not use piercing guns on any part of the body other than the lobes of the ears.
     • Fully clean and disinfect the piercing gun after use on each client.
     • Load all piercing guns without touching the stud or stud-holding device.
     • Ensure only sterile studs are used for piercing; if the package is opened, damaged, or contaminated in any way, discard the studs as they are no longer sterile.
     • Store the piercing gun in a dry, clean case between uses.
     • Use sterile, pre-packaged studs on an integrated platform in the piercing gun.
   • Records relating to invasive procedures must be kept by every operator of a personal service setting (O.Reg. 136/18; 6(1-2)).
     • Ensure records include: 1. Which procedure was done and which the part of the body the procedure was done to. 2. The name and contact information of the person who received the procedure. 3. The name and contact information of the person who provided the procedure. 4. Documentation that an explanation of the procedure and information about any risks associated with the procedure were communicated to the client. 5. Dates of the procedure. 6. The lot numbers and expiry date of the pre-packaged sterile equipment used in the procedure.
