Inspection summary
Helmcken Falls Lodge Restaurant has been inspected 4 times by Interior Health Authority since August 16, 2022. The most recent inspection, on June 4, 2026, recorded 1 infraction.
None of the 4 inspections on record were free of infractions. In the past 12 months there was 1 inspection with 1 infraction recorded. The higher-risk findings here relate to: Protecting food from contamination, Food source, labelling and allergens and Cleaning and sanitizing.
Recent inspections have recorded fewer infractions than earlier ones, so the record is improving.
What these findings mean
Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.
Protecting food from contaminationHigher risk
This covers how food is stored, prepared and displayed: raw meat kept away from ready-to-eat food, food covered and stored off the floor, and nothing dripping or splashing into it. Cross-contamination from raw to cooked food is a direct route for salmonella and E. coli.
Recorded 4 times across 4 separate inspections, most recently on June 4, 2026. For example:
5 Are the premises and equipment properly maintained and operated in a sanitary manner (i.e. ongoing maintenance)?
Food source, labelling and allergensHigher risk
Food must come from approved suppliers, stay in labelled containers and be thrown out when it is spoiled or damaged, such as dented or swollen cans. Labelling matters for allergies: an unlabelled container can hide an allergen.
Recorded once on August 16, 2022. For example:
6 Are the foods from approved sources and has the operator taken steps to ensure that the food is safe for consumption?
Cleaning and sanitizingHigher risk
Anything that touches food, such as cutting boards, dishes and utensils, must be washed, rinsed and sanitized. Inspectors check dishwasher temperatures, sanitizer strength and how wiping cloths are stored. Poor sanitizing lets bacteria survive from one use to the next.
Recorded once on August 16, 2022. For example:
3 Are food contact surfaces, utensils and equipment washed and sanitized in a manner that removes/prevents contamination?
Food temperature controlHigher risk
Bacteria multiply fastest between about 4 °C and 60 °C (40 °F to 140 °F). Inspectors check that cold food stays cold, hot food stays hot, cooked food is cooled quickly, and that staff have accurate thermometers. Temperature problems are one of the most common causes of food poisoning, so these are treated as critical findings.
Recorded once on August 16, 2022. For example:
4 Are proper freezing and thawing procedures followed?
Handwashing and staff hygieneHigher risk
Hands are the main way germs like norovirus move from people to food. Inspectors look for stocked, accessible handwashing sinks, staff washing hands when required, hair restraints, and sick employees being kept away from food. Gaps here can spread illness quickly.
Recorded once on August 16, 2022. For example:
7 Are there handwashing stations available and properly supplied?

We had a 2 bed lodge for our family. The location is very remote and quiet. The lodge was large enough for all of us, the amenities were basic but it was expected. Drip coffee machine with coffee provided; fridge provided. Bathroom and toiletries inside. Old fashioned in decor but fits the setting. Very peaceful campsite. Staff were very friendly. |Had a meal the night we arrived at the restaurant and it was very good; you must book/ reserve. |30 mins drive from Clearwater and no phone reception.

Our 2 night stay was booked through a travel agency, otherwise we wouldn’t have stayed here based on the reviews. |The location is nice with nice views, but the room (a 2 persons lodge) is so outdated and worn out! The bathroom is not nice at all, with an old toilet, bathtub and zinc, all calcified. The bed is okay, but with bulky pillows and only a blanket and sheets, no duvet. |The worst thing was however the so-called restaurant. We arrived in the afternoon and booked a table for dinner. The food was so bad - my fried chicken and vegetables was so salty- actually uneatable! My husbands beef burger was dry and boring. The food arrived after just 5 minutes wait or so - so there could not have been much preparing! I wouldn’t recommend that to anyone. Even though I complained to the waiter we were not offered any refund or apologies.

I would stay in a different lodge where they may treat the water better before it reaches the taps. We stayed here for 3 nights. Rusty reddish brown water from the taps in sink and bath tub. We could not use it while brushing or even a shower as you would smell like rust. The staff was great and breakfast was decent too. We were happy with the service but rusty smell every time you use the taps did not work well for us.

An absolute joke! Don't waste your money. Better off to go to well anywhere else than here. Some picnic tables are broken or busted up. Woman's washroom has 2 toilets, 1 sink and 1 shower. Men's washroom has 1 toilet, 2 sinks and 1 shower. Basically it's rack em and stack em here. They couldn't even find my reservation....if my credit card hadn't already been charged I would've left....even if they have showers and at that the showers are kind of scary. Absolutely no privacy...wide open to every one else. Only gave a 1star review as it wouldn't let me do any less!!!

Currently staying here and the service was remarkable. We are in an rv spot. We had booked a dry camping site but notice the site was not in the best condition. We went back to the counter and they let us know that they have been having staffing issues. They upgraded us to an available rv site for free. This is a beautiful camp ground with a remarkable view and the facilities are in great condition.
