What these findings mean

Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.

  • Food temperature controlHigher risk

Bacteria multiply fastest between about 4 °C and 60 °C (40 °F to 140 °F). Inspectors check that cold food stays cold, hot food stays hot, cooked food is cooled quickly, and that staff have accurate thermometers. Temperature problems are one of the most common causes of food poisoning, so these are treated as critical findings.

Recorded once on October 3, 2018. For example: Potentially hazardous food is at a refrigerated temperature that keeps it safe to eat.

Dated room with peeling wallpaper and a sagging mattress. Amenities included 2 stir sticks, powdered coffee creamer and a space where a microwave sat prior to Covid. There were 2 tiny glasses and when we enquired about larger ones we were told they didn't come any bigger, although they did have them at breakfast the next day. Paid almost $500 for an executive suite with no temperature control in the room. We had to call the front desk and estimate the temperature we thought we would like. When I called what i thought was the front desk in hopes of moving rooms, it turned out to be a central phone number and I was advised to go down to the front desk in person. On doing so, I was told there was nothing else available unless I was willing to pay more. Things were left broken if they did not make money for the hotel: both revolving doors, one with what appeared to be curtains stuffed inside, water features outside the entrance, and a down escalator leading to the adjacent bus exchange, leading us to struggle down a long flight of steps with heavy luggage in tow. Moving floor along the overhead walkway was also broken and looked pretty permanently ignored. Good access to sky train and busses if you are fit and young enough to carry multiple bags for a fair distance as many airport travellers have. Oh yes, we were told we needed our room cards to access the elevators. We did not. Elevators let in anyone who wanted a good prowl.

I stayed at this resort for three nights after completed my long cruise in May this year. I always choose this hotel for its convenient location, being next to the Canada Line and many eateries in Richmond. It was also close to YVR, though a shuttle to YVR, which was offered by other hotels in the area, would have been nice.||The room I was allocated was clean, but, as was the case in my previous stay last year, starting to show its age. ||Both check in and check out processes were smooth with attentive staff. No complaints from me!!!||Overall, a relaxing stay and looking forward to staying there again in the future.

Celebrated my parents' 80th birthday at The Buffet and it was great! The service staff and management did an amazing job. They set aside a nice section for us and dressed the tables very nicely. The food was really great as well. All-in-all, they did an awesome job and my folks were very happy with the whole evening. Thank you very much.

River Rock Resort's facilities and overall stay were enjoyable. However, I was left very disappointed by how my injury incident was handled after I slipped in the pool area and suffered a fractured toe. On the day of the accident, I completed an Incident Report with the resort. After returning to Korea, I was diagnosed with a fracture. A Korean-speaking staff member from the resort advised me to submit an English medical certificate if a fracture was confirmed, so I paid to obtain an English medical certificate and submitted it as requested. I later received a written response from the adjuster representing the resort. According to that response, River Rock Resort's position is that it would not be found liable for this incident, that the incident was simply an accident, and that a wet pool deck is considered an inherent risk associated with pool use. What I find difficult to understand is why I was asked to obtain and submit an English medical certificate at my own expense, yet no explanation has been provided regarding the purpose of that request, how the document was evaluated during the review process, or how it factored into the conclusion that the resort would not be found liable. I was also informed that there is no CCTV footage of the incident because the location where the accident occurred was outside the coverage area of any camera. I have since requested further clarification regarding the basis for the resort's decision and am currently awaiting a response. Separately, I submitted a complaint to Vancouver Coastal Health regarding this matter and was officially informed by Environmental Health Officer Cicely Yang that an on-site inspection of the pool facilities will be conducted, with follow-up information to be provided afterward. This experience taught me that when an accident occurs, guests should not only complete an incident report but also seek clear information regarding CCTV coverage, investigation procedures, liability assessment criteria, and the purpose of any medical documentation requested from them. I will update this review once I receive the resort's final response and the outcome of the health authority's inspection.

The overall experience was very nice. We experienced the rooms and the casino, and the housekeeping was well above standard. The only thing is we would have liked to have laundromat facilities at the hotel because we were on an extended trip. This was resolved by driving to nearby laundromats.
