Inspection summary

Kagura Hand Roll Bar has been inspected 3 times by Vancouver Coastal Health since October 15, 2025. The most recent inspection, on April 24, 2026, found no infractions.

2 of 3 inspections on record found no infractions at all. In the past 12 months there were 2 inspections with 1 infraction recorded. All recorded findings relate to upkeep, equipment or paperwork rather than direct food-handling risks.

What these findings mean

Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.

  • Permits, records and postingLower risk

Operating permits, required signage, written procedures and logs. These findings are administrative: the documentation was missing or out of date at the time of inspection.

Recorded once on April 21, 2026. For example: Operator of a food service establishment has approved written procedures to ensure the safe and sanitary operation of the establishment.

Truly an amazing experience!! We went at an off time at 330pm (didn’t want to wait at dinner rush) as they’re not taking resos being newly opened, and got seated right away. Beautiful interior and very clean. We got 1 kagura and 1 the kits. Right away we noticed the reasonable prices (and in central kitsilano, they could def charge more). Service was excellent- very friendly and speedy as you’d expect for a Japanese restaurant. Everything was very fresh, fish quality excellent, came out efficiently, tempura was made one at a time and very light and crunchy (I don’t like tempura normally but enjoyed these- the fish with shiso leaf was really different and good). Food is on par with Japan. We added a chutoro (my fave) and a sockeye salmon hand roll and with all of that, we were very full! They let me keep the cute glass too after I said how cute it was. I have nothing negative to say about this place, which is rare. Can’t wait to be back!

Good, but not "wow." I had higher expectations because I love hand rolls, but they didn't quite hit the spot for me. The hand rolls were good, but nothing particularly out of the ordinary. The tempura was just okay. That said, the squid tempura was surprisingly tender and soft—I've never had squid so tender and soft cooked like that before, and it was definitely a standout. I thought the prices were fair for what you get. The customer service was excellent, from the front of house staff to the kitchen team. Everyone was friendly, and each dish was explained in detail. The restaurant itself is also very clean, with a modern, welcoming space.

I had a wonderful experience at Kagura Hand Roll Bar. The atmosphere is absolutely beautiful, warm, cozy, and thoughtfully designed with great attention to detail. The ingredients were incredibly fresh, and you can really taste the quality in every bite. Everything was simple yet packed with natural flavour. The freshly fried tempura was one of my fav, it was light, crispy, and amazingly airy while still having a delicate, fluffy texture inside. If you’re looking for high-quality Japanese food in Kitsilano with a beautiful ambiance and excellent ingredients, this place is definitely worth visiting.

Nicely decorated. Went during lunch, wasn't too busy, service was good and attentive. Got the Kagura combo. Handrolls and tempura were good, served one at a time. Good experience if you are looking for something different for lunch. The cool soy sauce dispensers were a nice touch. It says card only no cash, but you can pay cash, however they aren't able to give you change which is fine.

the maguro torio is really satisfying 🤤 i loved the toro a lot, it melted in my mouth! the pairing with ikura is unbeatable. i also ordered the uni bite which is very creamy. can’t go wrong with uni 💛 i personally think this is much better than hello nori in terms of quality. staff was really friendly. they also have HH price for drinks so it’s a must try!
