Inspection summary

La Playita Seafood has been inspected 9 times by Vancouver Coastal Health since May 13, 2022. The most recent inspection, on January 20, 2026, found no infractions.

4 of 9 inspections on record found no infractions at all. In the past 12 months there were 2 inspections with 1 infraction recorded. The higher-risk findings here relate to: Cleaning and sanitizing, Food temperature control and Handwashing and staff hygiene.

Recent inspections have recorded fewer infractions than earlier ones, so the record is improving.

What these findings mean

Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.

  • Cleaning and sanitizingHigher risk

Anything that touches food, such as cutting boards, dishes and utensils, must be washed, rinsed and sanitized. Inspectors check dishwasher temperatures, sanitizer strength and how wiping cloths are stored. Poor sanitizing lets bacteria survive from one use to the next.

Recorded 7 times across 4 separate inspections, most recently on October 10, 2025. For example: The premises and all equipment, utensils, and food contact surfaces are maintained in good condition and used in a manner that ensures safe and sanitary food handling.

  • Food temperature controlHigher risk

Bacteria multiply fastest between about 4 °C and 60 °C (40 °F to 140 °F). Inspectors check that cold food stays cold, hot food stays hot, cooked food is cooled quickly, and that staff have accurate thermometers. Temperature problems are one of the most common causes of food poisoning, so these are treated as critical findings.

Recorded 3 times across 3 separate inspections, most recently on August 1, 2024. For example: Potentially hazardous food is at a refrigerated temperature that keeps it safe to eat.

  • Handwashing and staff hygieneHigher risk

Hands are the main way germs like norovirus move from people to food. Inspectors look for stocked, accessible handwashing sinks, staff washing hands when required, hair restraints, and sick employees being kept away from food. Gaps here can spread illness quickly.

Recorded 2 times across 2 separate inspections, most recently on August 1, 2024. For example: Each employee demonstrates good personal hygiene and washes their hands as often as necessary to prevent the contamination of food.

  • Food safety training and certificationLower risk

Most jurisdictions require a certified food handler or manager on site, and some require allergen or food-worker training. These findings mean the paperwork or the trained person was missing at the time. They do not by themselves mean food was handled unsafely.

Recorded 3 times across 3 separate inspections, most recently on November 19, 2025. For example: A Certified food safety training course has been taken by the operator and food handlers of the food service establishment.

  • Permits, records and postingLower risk

Operating permits, required signage, written procedures and logs. These findings are administrative: the documentation was missing or out of date at the time of inspection.

Recorded once on May 13, 2022. For example: An operator of a food service establishment must develop, maintain, and follow written procedures to ensure that a health hazard does not occur in the operation of the establishment.

Indulge your cravings with a variety of fresh and authentic Mexican seafood specialties. I highly recommend trying the popular loaded Mexican-style sushi rolls and their excellent micheladas. What stood out to me wasn’t just how flavorful and beautifully presented the dishes were, but also how generous the portions turned out to be. The restaurant itself has a casual, laid-back atmosphere paired with friendly service, making it a great spot to relax and enjoy a satisfying meal. Terrible service- the waitresses did not give a damn about serving us.. they didn’t bring any water or plates . We had to get up and ask them for it. They forgot 2 of our main dishes. They also forgot our drinks. They forgot our shrimp in one of our aguachiles. They forgot our balazo drinks - we reminded them that we ordered 2 balazo shots , we were served with a horrible tasting shot full of hot sauce and random things with no liquor . Horrible experience. Do not recommend

The best Mexican restaurant in Vancouver! 100% The food is absolutely delicious every time we visit. Good portions, I've tried different dishes and loved them all. They just added a spicy black salsa that my husband loves.

I came to your restaurant today, and the behavior of the female staff was not respectful at all. The food was relatively good, but some of the staff were not friendly. Even when I was leaving, I saw one of your staff treat an Uber driver disrespectfully, which was really not humane. Overall, the food was okay, but the service and cleanliness were very poor.
