Inspection summary

LOBCO #1517 - The Real Canadian Superstore has been inspected 16 times by Vancouver Coastal Health since May 4, 2015. The most recent inspection, on June 20, 2026, found no infractions.

11 of 16 inspections on record found no infractions at all. In the past 12 months there were 4 inspections with 3 infractions recorded. The higher-risk findings here relate to: Food temperature control.

The number of infractions per inspection has stayed roughly the same over time.

What these findings mean

Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.

  • Food temperature controlHigher risk

Bacteria multiply fastest between about 4 °C and 60 °C (40 °F to 140 °F). Inspectors check that cold food stays cold, hot food stays hot, cooked food is cooled quickly, and that staff have accurate thermometers. Temperature problems are one of the most common causes of food poisoning, so these are treated as critical findings.

Recorded 2 times across 2 separate inspections, most recently on August 28, 2024. For example: Potentially hazardous food is at a refrigerated temperature that keeps it safe to eat.

  • Permits, records and postingLower risk

Operating permits, required signage, written procedures and logs. These findings are administrative: the documentation was missing or out of date at the time of inspection.

Recorded 3 times across 3 separate inspections, most recently on June 4, 2026. For example: The Permit to Operate a food service establishment is valid and is posted in a conspicuous location.

The food is rotting on the shelves (covered in mold today) and this is something that is easy to check a few times a day and compost bad food so that it doesn't spoil the other food we want to buy. Dangerous foodborne bacteria like Salmonella, E. coli, and Listeria often grow alongside mold and spread quickly especially in warm humid environments. I hope I don't get sick. My local superstore has prices out of control, and quality declining. Time spent in store queuing to pay generally increasing year over year because they don't open enough cash registers and they don't allow more than 20 or 25 items at self service. Even when the self service machines are free there is no attempt to shorten the other queues.

Your uneventful day at SuperStore becomes full of surprise with a real-life episode of Tom and Jerry. (Tom the Cat is missing, btw). Jerry loves roaming the aisles and prowling from stalls to stalls. Hopefully it won’t crawl into the food we are gonna buy. Otherwise, hell breaks loose. I will think twice, or maybe, never to purchase the fruits and vegetables put out on the open at this store.

I’m thankful that this is the only corporate grocery store that opens early in the morning. Lots of good deals and clearance items at that hour of opening. I enjoy coming early when there’s less people and no line ups. The staff is generally friendly. Obviously there are some superb individuals who stand out and take a lot of pride in their work. The only drawback is once in a while there is this fishy smell in the air in this area. It’s like a huge whale just rolled upon shore and died in the sun while seagulls are eating the carcass… seriously. I’m not sure what’s in that area but it makes the shopping experience unbearable at times. Also the last draw back is when they hire an inventory counting team and the team places post-it notes, covering the price tags. I never want to interrupt someone’s job, but it’s awkward when you want to check the price of an item and you get a glare from an employee 🤣. Nice items to try out and experiment at home. Just a few examples for others who are looking for some ideas to stretch their dollar further. The grab and go section is wonderful as well if you’re tight in time. The kosher section also has a great selection of items as well! As for the PC programs. I have their World Elite Mastercard and PC membership. There’s definitely value and the points add up quickly. I wouldn’t recommend racking up too much points. Just use them on the go. Don’t forget about the PC health apps as well. Great way to rack extra points and learn to improve your overall mental and physical health.

This store is very dirty especially in the corner of the store closest to the bakery near the coin machine. The bathroom needs to be cleaned more frequently by staff. The large handicap stall at the end was out of commission. The other stalls had toilet paper all over the seats. Also, the shopping carts are all outside in the rain. I was here around 9:30am and there should be dry carts stocked back up overnight in the entry way like other Superstore locations. Shopping here with young children who need to sit in the cart is not an option on a rainy day. Management needs better attention to detail at this location.

I recently visited Real Canadian Superstore on Marine Drive, and overall, I had a good experience. The store is quite spacious and has a wide selection of groceries, household items, fresh produce, bakery products, frozen foods, and everyday essentials, which makes it convenient when you want to get most of your shopping done in one place. I like that the location is easy to access, especially if you are in the area and need to quickly pick up groceries or do a bigger weekly shop. The variety is definitely one of the strong points of this store. You can find many different options, from regular grocery items to international products, snacks, drinks, and fresh food sections. The store can get busy at times, but that is expected for a large grocery store in a convenient location. Overall, it is a reliable place for shopping, and I appreciate having a store like this nearby where you can find almost everything you need under one roof. I would definitely continue shopping here again.
