Inspection summary
Local Public Eatery has been inspected 6 times by Vancouver Coastal Health since December 6, 2023. The most recent inspection, on November 5, 2025, found no infractions.
2 of 6 inspections on record found no infractions at all. In the past 12 months there was 1 inspection with 0 infractions recorded. The higher-risk findings here relate to: Cleaning and sanitizing and Handwashing and staff hygiene.
Recent inspections have recorded fewer infractions than earlier ones, so the record is improving.
What these findings mean
Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.
Cleaning and sanitizingHigher risk
Anything that touches food, such as cutting boards, dishes and utensils, must be washed, rinsed and sanitized. Inspectors check dishwasher temperatures, sanitizer strength and how wiping cloths are stored. Poor sanitizing lets bacteria survive from one use to the next.
Recorded 4 times across 4 separate inspections, most recently on October 15, 2025. For example:
All equipment, food contact surfaces, utensils, dishes & glasses used on the premises are washed and sanitized in a manner that removes contamination.
Handwashing and staff hygieneHigher risk
Hands are the main way germs like norovirus move from people to food. Inspectors look for stocked, accessible handwashing sinks, staff washing hands when required, hair restraints, and sick employees being kept away from food. Gaps here can spread illness quickly.
Recorded once on July 10, 2024. For example:
Each employee demonstrates good personal hygiene and washes their hands as often as necessary to prevent the contamination of food.
Building, plumbing and upkeepLower risk
Floors, walls and ceilings must be smooth and clean, with working lighting, ventilation, plumbing, hot and cold water, and washrooms. These are rarely an immediate food-safety risk on their own, but persistent problems can lead to pest or sanitation issues.
Recorded 2 times across 2 separate inspections, most recently on October 15, 2025. For example:
Operation and maintenance of premises is in accordance with approved floor plans and specifications.
Permits, records and postingLower risk
Operating permits, required signage, written procedures and logs. These findings are administrative: the documentation was missing or out of date at the time of inspection.
Recorded 2 times across 2 separate inspections, most recently on October 15, 2025. For example:
Operator of a food service establishment has developed, maintained, and followed approved written procedures to ensure that a health hazard does not occur.

We’ve been to the LOCAL in Gastown and love its location, so we were not expecting this one in the River District to be as appealing – we were wrong, it is! Huge sky-high interior (with two floors) and plenty of outside seating. We love the open feeling of the interior. The food is exceptionally good. The Fully Loaded Crispy Potatoes were delicate and superb! Not only to look at but in taste, the mix of garnishing was perfect. The BBQ Rice Bowl was so tasty with excellent BBQ pork and the dressing on the cabbage nice and delicate. The Spicy Chicken Sandwich was a surprise because instead of being typical fare, it was both crispy and juicy with a wonderful flavour. Along with a draft IPA and the sunshine, this was a gorgeous place to have a lunch. The service was excellent: our server, Kloe, was friendly, cheerful and attentive. As we had trouble deciding who was to have which dish, she thoughtfully asked if wanted separate plates to share – not unusual but she seemed to be tuned into our needs. Her manner seemed genuine and not forced. We’re definitely coming back, not just for the food and service but for the relaxed calm. Highly recommended!

Had dinner first time. Really enjoy nachos and had to order a second one. Hot wings are all drumsticks and no wings. Blue cheese sauce is good with drumsticks. Satay chicken peanut salad is a nice surprise. The server is very friendly and attentive. Restaurant had multiple TVs playing different sport games but not loud like social house.

Taylor, Khloe and Cass, this trio made it another wonderful visit. I was disappointed at first that we got seated at the bar, yes no resos, when there appeared to be tables available! But, that disappointment quickly changed with the warm welcome and comments about our last visit. The bar seating ended up being what we needed. We got to expand on what we ordered and sample other dishes from the menu, including a new addition. Food received a 4 star only because we sampled a new item in the menu that was extremely undercooked but the team quickly took the time to resolve the issue and they took it as a teaching opportunity for the kitchen. Great care with not only getting it right for us but also for future guests. A big thank you to Taylor, Khloe and Cass for a great evening, the chatter, service and attention made it a fun and delicious evening. People really do make the place.

We had such a great experience at this pub! The food really stood out — creative, interesting, and definitely something different from what you usually get at other pubs. You can tell they put thought into their menu. The burger was a highlight for us. It comes with two patties, which made them extra satisfying, juicy, and honestly so delicious. What made the visit even better was the service. Our server (I believe her name was Ella) was absolutely amazing. She really made us feel welcome and added to the whole vibe of the place. Huge thanks for that, we’ll definitely be back!

Nice local pub, good vibes big TVs and nice layout. Underground parking was convenient, we had the chicken burger fish tacos and steak frites. Love the three my favorite was the steak frites, the sauce was tasty and the fries came with the cool topping. I would get that again. The happy hour only provided $5 off of starters, would have been nice to have more entrees on the happy hour menu. We start at 9pm, on the weekday evening when we were there.
