Inspection summary
Lucky Taco River District has been inspected 8 times by Vancouver Coastal Health since March 8, 2024. The most recent inspection, on September 3, 2026, found no infractions.
4 of 8 inspections on record found no infractions at all. In the past 12 months there were 4 inspections with 13 infractions recorded. The higher-risk findings here relate to: Cleaning and sanitizing, Food temperature control and Pests.
Recent inspections have recorded more infractions than earlier ones, so it is worth reading the latest reports closely.
What these findings mean
Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.
Cleaning and sanitizingHigher risk
Anything that touches food, such as cutting boards, dishes and utensils, must be washed, rinsed and sanitized. Inspectors check dishwasher temperatures, sanitizer strength and how wiping cloths are stored. Poor sanitizing lets bacteria survive from one use to the next.
Recorded 6 times across 4 separate inspections, most recently on September 1, 2026. For example:
The premises and all equipment, utensils, and food contact surfaces are maintained in good condition and used in a manner that ensures safe and sanitary food handling.
Food temperature controlHigher risk
Bacteria multiply fastest between about 4 °C and 60 °C (40 °F to 140 °F). Inspectors check that cold food stays cold, hot food stays hot, cooked food is cooled quickly, and that staff have accurate thermometers. Temperature problems are one of the most common causes of food poisoning, so these are treated as critical findings.
Recorded 2 times across 2 separate inspections, most recently on September 1, 2026. For example:
Potentially hazardous food is at a refrigerated temperature that keeps it safe to eat.
PestsHigher risk
Signs of mice, rats, cockroaches or flies, or gaps and clutter that let them get in or hide. Pests carry bacteria and can contaminate food and surfaces, so evidence of activity is treated seriously and usually triggers a follow-up visit.
Recorded 2 times on September 1, 2026. For example:
The premises is free of pests.
Handwashing and staff hygieneHigher risk
Hands are the main way germs like norovirus move from people to food. Inspectors look for stocked, accessible handwashing sinks, staff washing hands when required, hair restraints, and sick employees being kept away from food. Gaps here can spread illness quickly.
Recorded once on March 4, 2026. For example:
Each employee demonstrates good personal hygiene and washes their hands as often as necessary to prevent the contamination of food.
Permits, records and postingLower risk
Operating permits, required signage, written procedures and logs. These findings are administrative: the documentation was missing or out of date at the time of inspection.
Recorded 4 times across 2 separate inspections, most recently on September 1, 2026. For example:
Operator of a food service establishment has developed, maintained, and followed approved written procedures to ensure that a health hazard does not occur.

This place was okay, but the service definitely had room for improvement. We were lucky enough to be seated right next to where they prep the water bottles, so we could just grab one ourselves and save the server the trip. While the food tasted good, the overall value just isn't there. I feel like there are better spots in the neighborhood to frequent.

Always have had a great experience at Lucky Taco. I’ve been here a few times for both lunch and dinner and they’ve never disappointed. The food is always delicious, big portions, and overall just great value for both meals and drinks! Service is consistently great making the whole experience better. Will always come back when I'm in the area.

We came here for brunch and everything was so delicious! We tried the Chilaquiles, Huevos Divorciados and the Tres Leches French toast and everything was amazing. Service was fantastic and we had a couple of brunch cocktails that topped the meal off perfectly. A great new option for brunch in the River District!

Came here for Dine Out and the food was spectacular! My partner loved the carnitas taco and birria taco. I loved the choriqueso taco. The chicaronnes and churros are definitely worth getting! I wasn't a huge fan of the drinks though.

Had a great time. Ordered the chicken flautas, very flavourful and crispy 10/10. Tater tots, classic nothing wrong there. Tacos, crispy fish, tasty 8/10. Spicy fried chicken, might ask for hot sauce on the side next time but otherwise crispy and delicious, 7.5/10 would have given it a 9/10 without the spicy sauce (but that’s just me). Cauliflower al pastor, delicious would get it again 9/10. Had a mocktail, guava ginger and it was super gingery in a great way! 9/10. The staff are so friendly and fun. We enjoyed their company.
