Inspection summary
O & T Nail Salon has been inspected 2 times by Alberta Health Services (Environmental Public Health) since October 24, 2024. The most recent inspection, on October 6, 2026, recorded 4 infractions.
1 of 2 inspections on record found no infractions at all. In the past 12 months there was 1 inspection with 4 infractions recorded. All recorded findings relate to upkeep, equipment or paperwork rather than direct infection-control risks to clients.
What these findings mean
Health authorities word their findings differently, so we group them by what they mean for clients. In personal service settings like salons, spas and tattoo studios, higher-risk findings are the ones that could spread infection from one client to the next, through broken skin, blood or instruments that were not properly cleaned and sterilized.
Equipment and utensilsLower risk
Instruments, chairs, tables and footbaths must be made of materials that can be cleaned, kept in good repair and stored so they stay clean. Single-use items such as nail files, buffers, razors and needles must be thrown away after each client.
Recorded 4 times on October 6, 2026. For example:
Is single-use or uncleanable equipment being used as intended (Critical)?

- 13. Is single-use or uncleanable equipment being used as intended (Critical)?
- Numerous items intended for single client use appear to be getting re-used.1) The various drawers in the nail stations were full of used emery boards. These need to be discarded immediately after use. There is absolutely no reason to store these in the drawer. There are garbage receptacles immediately beside the stations. All used emery boards discarded during inspection.2) There was a container of disinfectant containing wooden sticks, toe separators and foam files. NONE of these are considered reuseable. As such, there is no reason to disinfect these after use. ALL these items must be discarded after use.All these items were discarded during the inspection.
- 17. Is reusable equipment cleaned properly (Critical)?
- 1) There was a foot file/rasp/grater soaking in a solution of 70% Alcohol. The tool was NOT clean. These items must be thoroughly cleaned PRIOR to disinfection. If this isn't done properly, the disinfectant may not work as intended.
- 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
- 1) There was a foot file/rasp/grater soaking in a solution of 70% Alcohol. The tool was NOT clean.70% alcohol is not a suitable high-level disinfectant. Semi-critical items must be disinfected with a high level disinfectant (eg. CS-20 or HLD-5).In addition to this, the tool was not clean. This limits the effectiveness of disinfection.Ensure re-useable semi-critical tools are thoroughly cleaned AND disinfected in the appropriate high level disinfectant. This container was dumped during the inspection and the tool was added to a pile of items to clean.2) All the remaining tools (nippers, clippers, etc,) were soaking in a container of CS-20 (an appropriate high-level disinfectant). However, this solution measures ZERO on the CS-20 test strips. This indicates that the disinfection capability is gone. This same solution has likely been used MUCH too long.Purchase the matching test strips for your primary disinfectant. In this case, CS-20.Test your disinfectant regularly and replace it as needed.Operator emptied and refilled the disinfectant container with CS-20 during the inspection. Note: The CS-20 bottle was fairly new and didn't expire until next year.
- 27. Is the facility maintained in a visibly clean state and are environmental surfaces cleaned and disinfected properly?
- 1) The detachable bubble impellers in the footbaths are not being cleaned between clients.I took one apart from a "ready-to-go" foot bath and seen various debris inside it.Take these off and clean/disinfect them between clients. Preempt RTU is sufficient for this.
