2 inspections

  1. Monitoring

    5 infractions

    • F1.7 Are foods protected from contamination?
      • Observation(s): Noted ice-cream scoops were stored in a container filled with water. This may result in bacterial growth, leading to cross-contamination. Ensure adequate food safety measures are implemented prior to gelato service. Refer to F2.5.
      • F1.7C Ready-to-eat foods must be handled/displayed in a manner that prevents cross contamination.
    • F2.1 Does the facility have proper monitoring supplies?
      • Observation(s): Expired chlorine test strips were observed for measuring the concentration of food contact surface sanitizer.
      • F2.1A Sanitizer test strips must be available for each chemical sanitizer used at the premises.
    • F2.5 Are the premises and equipment properly maintained and operated in a sanitary manner (i.e. ongoing maintenance)?
      • Observation(s): Noted ice-cream scoops are stored in a container filled with water, which may result in cross-contamination. Operator was instructed to install a dipper well that has continuously running cold water during the premises operating hours and at a rate of flow that will provide sufficient rinsing of the scoop. At the end of each day the dipper well must be drained and sanitized; scoops must also be cleaned and sanitized.
      • F2.5K Storage of equipment, food contact surfaces and utensils must prevent contamination.
    • F3.3 Are written food handling procedures (Food Safety Plan) current and available on site?
      • Observation(s): Gelato food handling procedures were not provided in Food Safety Plan.
      • F3.3B Operator must maintain written food handling procedures that includes all potentially hazardous foods.
    • F3.4 Are written sanitation procedures (Sanitation Plan) current and available on site?
      • Observation(s): Cleaning and Sanitation procedures for equipment/utensils used for gelato were not provided in the Sanitation Plan.
      • F3.4A Written sanitation procedures must include cleaning and sanitizing requirements for the establishment and all equipment and utensils.
  2. Monitoring

    4 infractions

    • F2.1 Does the facility have proper monitoring supplies?
      • Observation(s): No sanitizer test strips were available on-site to measure the sanitizer concentration. Ensure coolers/freezers are equipped with a thermometer to monitor temperatures. Maintain the temperature log.
      • F2.1A Sanitizer test strips must be available for each chemical sanitizer used at the premises.
      • F2.1B A thermometer accurate within 1 °C must be available to monitor processes.
    • F2.3 Are food contact surfaces, utensils and equipment washed and sanitized in a manner that removes/prevents contamination?
      • Observation(s): No food safe sanitizer solution was observed for sanitizing food contact surfaces. Sanitizing solution with accurate concentration is required for adequate sanitizing of food contact surfaces. Ensure a food safe sanitizer solution (e.g., using bleach (chlorine) or QUAT @200 ppm) is available for adequate sanitizing of food contact surfaces. Detergent jug was observed to be empty in the high temperature dishwasher. This may lead to inadequate washing of utensils. CDI - Operator refilled the detergent jug at time of inspection and ensure to regularly inspect the cleaning agents.
      • F2.3A Mechanical dishwasher/glasswasher must provide sufficient washing and sanitizing action to remove contamination.
      • F2.3D Sanitizer solution must be available and kept at the correct levels for adequate sanitizing action.
    • F2.5 Are the premises and equipment properly maintained and operated in a sanitary manner (i.e. ongoing maintenance)?
      • Observation(s): Wet wiping cloths observed stored on food contact surfaces. Wet wiping cloths can accumulate food debris and may allow the growth of pathogens, which can cross-contaminate the surfaces. Ensure wiping cloths are stored in an adequate sanitizing solution. Ensure adequate sanitizer buckets are available at each food service station, and buckets are labeled with a sanitizer.
      • F2.5C Wiping cloths must be maintained and stored in a sanitary manner.
      • F2.5D Chemicals, cleaners and other agents must be properly labelled and stored separately from food to prevent contamination.
    • F2.7 Are there handwashing stations available and properly supplied?
      • Observation(s): No paper towel was observed at the handwashing station in the kitchen, and it was noted that staff is using reusable cloth towels for drying hands. This may lead to inadequate handwashing of food handlers. Operator was instructed to place a paper towel roll beside the hand sink as an interim solution and order a paper towel dispenser for the handwashing station. Handwashing sink was observed to be used for cleaning/scrubbing utensils. Ensure handwashing station is accessible at all times, equipped with soap/ paper towel, and only designated for handwashing.
      • F2.7C Handwashing station must be supplied with single-service product for drying hands.
      • F2.7E Handwashing stations must remain accessible at all times.

Abbott St. Cafe in Pandosy Village is an absolute gem! Nestled just opposite the park, its prime location offers a stunning view of Okanagan Lake from the terrace, making it a perfect spot to relax and unwind. The ambience here is incredible – warm, inviting, and beautifully designed, providing an ideal place to spend your time. One thing that immediately stood out to me was the cleanliness. The cafe is impeccably maintained, which adds to the overall comfort and enjoyment of the experience. A special shout-out to Taylor and Jada, who made my first visit truly memorable! These two wonderful ladies were incredibly respectful, kind, and welcoming. They provided fantastic suggestions, and I decided to try their special holiday Gingerbread Latte. It was absolutely delightful! The flavors were perfectly balanced, and it was one of the best lattes I’ve had. Highly recommended if you’re visiting during the holiday season. Thank you, Taylor and Jada, for your kindness and for creating such a positive environment. Abbott St. Cafe has quickly become one of my favorite spots in Kelowna, and I’m looking forward to visiting again soon!

Beautiful location with an outdoor terrace where you can enjoy a good coffee overlooking the lake and the park. The coffee quality is great and it’s a lovely spot to chat with friends. Unfortunately, the service today (October 4th, around 2 p.m.) wasn’t as warm as the place itself. The girl at the counter looked unfriendly, didn’t return the greeting, and just limited herself to taking the order. No smile, no suggestion of other options — not even after leaving a tip in cash. The only words I heard were: “To here or to go?” and “Anything else?” Great café, but the service could definitely be more welcoming.

Cute little Cafe just across Okanagan lake. Just pastries for eating. Delicious pumpkin scones and my friend loved her almond croissant. The tea was very good and the service was incredible by the young ladies Lots of seating in and out!! A little pricey paid almost $11 for a scone and a tee.

The coffee tasted okay, but the dirty plate and spoons were a real mood-breaker😞. The lattes were not as foamy as should be and no designs on top.. A quick polish and a bit more care would turn this into a perfect coffee stop..🤩

Fantastic coffee, appetizing offerings, and even gelato!! Honestly though, the service is what I would write home about. There is plenty of additional seating upstairs and outdoor on the patio. This cafe is across the street from the park and lake, dog friendly and only five minutes from the main drag of Kelowna. Love this spot 🤍
