  1. Monitoring

    1 infraction

    • F2.5 Are the premises and equipment properly maintained and operated in a sanitary manner (i.e. ongoing maintenance)?
      • Observation(s): Kitchen will need a repainting. This will smooth out the surfaces and allow for them to be cleaned easier. Additionally, the brown wood counter and shelving behind the prep line that is being used for a coffee station must be replaced. The plastic surface has peeled and chipped off in many areas and much of the wood underneath has been ground away and is exposed. This is not considered non-permeable and easy to clean. I will follow up this spring.
  2. Monitoring

    3 infractions

    • F1.2 Are proper temperature controls maintained to ensure safe storage and display of foods?
      • Observation(s): Cooler that is across from the salad cooler and next to the back screen door in the kitchen was holding foods around 11C. This cooler must be replaced or repaired and potentially hazardous foods must be stored elsewhere until the problem is rectified.
      • F1.2B Potentially hazardous foods must be stored or displayed at a temperature of 4 °C (40 °F) or colder.
    • F2.2 Are proper pest control measures in place on the premises?
      • Observation(s): Fruit flies were noted in the bar area. Please ensure all sticky areas are cleaned and rinsed, there is no standing water (under mats, on the floor, etc.), all open alcohol bottles must be covered, remove garbage, pour bleach down the drains, and install sticky traps to catch the flies that are in the premise.
      • F2.2C The premises must be maintained free of pests.
    • F2.5 Are the premises and equipment properly maintained and operated in a sanitary manner (i.e. ongoing maintenance)?
      • Observation(s): The building is old and showing its age. Continued maintenance and updates are required to ensure the premise remains in good working condition. - Area behind dishwasher must be painted or covered. The steam and moisture from the dishwasher is rotting and allowing for mold along the paint and tile. - Holes in walls have exposed drywall. This was noted by the screen door in the back of the kitchen. - The HVAC system must be looked at and filters changed if needed. - The ceiling fan in the kitchen must be dusted and wiped clean. - The exposed and rotting wood at the bottom of the small walk in cooler must be covered and/or painted. This exposed wood is starting to rot and constant exposure to moisture will allow mold growth. - The flooring throughout the kitchen has the paint worn down from use over the years. There are areas where the cement is cracked and small patches chipped away. The floor must be either repainted or resealed as the cement is porous and has the ability to harbor moisture and bacteria. A smooth flooring will also make floor maintenance easier to deal with.
      • F2.5B The premises must be properly constructed and maintained in good, clean and sanitary condition.
  3. Monitoring

    2 infractions

    • F1.2 Are proper temperature controls maintained to ensure safe storage and display of foods?
      • Observation(s): Cooler directly facing swinging door towards bar, and directly next to oven is reading temperatures closer to 10 degrees C. This cooler must be fixed or moved to a colder spot in the kitchen to allow cooler to keep temperatures at 4 degrees or colder. All potentially hazardous food must be removed and placed in other coolers that can hold food at colder temperature. Do not keep any potentially hazardous foods in this cooler for more than 4 hours.
    • F2.3 Are food contact surfaces, utensils and equipment washed and sanitized in a manner that removes/prevents contamination?
      • Observation(s): Glass dishwasher in bar is not producing enough iodine to sanitize dishes. Staff must either use the dishwasher in the kitchen or have bucket with iodine solution in bar to sanitize the dishes. I will follow up on this on June 12, 2024.
  4. Monitoring

    2 infractions

    • F2.2 Are proper pest control measures in place on the premises?
      • Observation(s): Holes in ceiling tiles and walls must be sealed this winter. I will follow up in the spring (March/April) of 2024.
    • F2.5 Are the premises and equipment properly maintained and operated in a sanitary manner (i.e. ongoing maintenance)?
      • Observation(s): Warped or old ceiling tiles must be replaced or painted by spring (March/April) 2024. Walls must be painted and grouting redone behind the dishwasher and in the dishwashing area.
      • F2.5B The premises must be properly constructed and maintained in good, clean and sanitary condition.

Great experience again. Service is fast and servers are attentive. My husband's order came right away and i'm happy because he's so hungry and it's his first time there lol. My chicken wings are crunchy and tasty. I love the lakeside view while eating.

This place has such a great view of the lake. There is an unfortunate smell due to some dredging taking place when we were there but once that's resolved I think it would be a great spot.

It's a great place to go!! Warm, welcoming and fun!! My husband and I live in walking distance, so it's also convenient to go there! (It's down by that tall building in the picture) We loved going there when we came here to visit and it's still our favorite spot since we moved here! We plan on going there on some of our date nights and recommend this place to anyone who askes us where to go! The first time we got dropped off by a taxi, we thought they took us to the wrong place. But we're so happy we went in and explored! We found a place with great food, awesome people and really good drinks!! Highly recommend The Barking Parrot Bar to everyone!

Sat on the patio with a fantastic view right on the lake. The service was great and quick. It was busy as it was a beautiful May day on a Saturday with a patio on the lake. So reasonably priced we were shocked. Pub food and yummy. Love that lunch for 2 and a couple beers only cost us just over $60 including tip. Wow.

We drove to the Penticton Lake Resort to donate Blood, the resort hosted the Canadian Blood Services Donation Day Event that day. Gorgeous Resort. We grabbed a bite to eat before heading back home. Friendly service, Lenay was very attentive and all the staff seem to help each other. The food was typical pub quality, however, the spring rolls were different and very delicious.

I came to the Barking Parrot on Friday night (Dec 27, 2025) expecting a proper weekend vibe. For a moment, the DJ actually had it — people were dancing, the room was moving, and it felt like the night was finally taking off. Then he wrecked it in one move. He jumped the tempo from about 94 BPM to 152 BPM with zero buildup — the kind of hard swing that makes a dance floor instantly stop. People froze, the floor emptied, and the room started bleeding customers. I told him straight up: you sped it up too much and you just cleared the dance floor. His response was literally: “I don’t care.” So let me get this straight: you’re getting paid to control the energy of the room, you empty the dance floor, and you don’t care? At that point, the man bun shouldn’t be the main attraction — the music should. If you’re hiring someone who can’t read a crowd and openly doesn’t care, you may as well put on Spotify Auto DJ. It would honestly do a better job keeping the vibe consistent. This venue has the space and the location to be a winter staple, but not with entertainment like this. Hire actual talent for Friday nights — or at minimum someone who understands pacing and gives a damn

Late night eats success story! Walked in after 8pm on a Sunday night during the off season. Kitchen was open. My friend went with the chicken fingers. Nothing special about them. Came out hot and fresh but it’s not like they were house breaded strips. As for the beef dip the bartender mentioned it’s one of the top sellers on the menu. A favorite if you will. I decided to go with the fan favorite. It didn’t disappoint. Dark au jus and very flavourful. The bun was crisp on the outside but soft on the inside with tender slices of beef. Very happy with my meal. I’d say the disappointment was the warm beer I was served initially. The bartender was new I’d assume? Not sure but weird to be served a Luke warm beer. I let him know my disappointment and he got me something else. It took longer than it should have since he was occupied with the other staff. All and all decent spot. I’ve heard it’s the place to be fri and sat night. Sun nothing was going on. Good for a hotel bar tho and great beef dip!

A popular place for dinner. Lovely on the patio with the views of the lake. Food is very good. I always have burgers and fries at pubs and I wasn’t disappointed. Servers were friendly, helpful and efficient.
