- 03. Are facility-specific written procedures established to adequately describe safe and sanitary practices?
- The operator did not have written procedures for:- Preparation of Skin (the cleansing of skin and mucous membrane)- Client Care (in the event of an accidental skin cut or puncture)Corrective Action:- These procedures were completed with the Owner during the inspection.
- 06. Do operators and personal services workers comply with the Personal Services Regulation and Standards and do they have the skills and knowledge to perform their duties in a safe and sanitary manner?
- PREempt CS20 (high-level disinfectant) was being applied using a spray bottle on a foot file. This is not in accordance with manufacturer instructions, which require the item to be fully immersed in the solution.Corrective Action:Owner and staff were advised to discontinue this practice and to follow manufacturer guidelines by submerging equipment in the PREempt CS20 as required.
- 10. Is cleansing and antisepsis of skin and mucous membrane performed in accordance to written procedures and are suitable products being used?
- Skin cleansing was not performed prior to waxing.Corrective Action:- Owner and staff were advised to ensure skin is cleansed before waxing. Baby wipes are available on-site and can be used for this purpose.- A written procedure was completed with the owner for this requirement.
- 13. Is single-use or uncleanable equipment being used as intended (Critical)?
- Foam nail files were being reused between clients. These materials are porous and cannot be properly disinfected.Corrective Action:- Owner and Operator were advised that foam files (and any other sponge or foam-based tools) are single-use only. - These must be discarded after use on one client to prevent cross-contamination.
- 24. Are waste sharps disposed of properly?
- A sharps container was not available for disposing of sharps, including blades used in the callus shaver (foot blade).Corrective Action:- Owner was advised to obtain a proper sharps container for safe disposal of all sharps, including callus shaver blades. - Recommended purchasing one from a pharmacy and returning it there for disposal when full.
- 29. Is the facility properly constructed and maintained to allow for the safe and sanitary provision of personal services (Non-Critical)?
- Four worker chairs are fabric/mesh, and four pillows at the pedicure chairs are fabric/cotton. These surfaces are porous and not easily cleanable (or disinfected).Corrective Action:- Owner was advised to replace the chairs and pillows or install a cover. - Surfaces must be smooth, non-porous, and easily cleanable.- Owner will remove from the facility.
