    • 06. Do operators and personal services workers comply with the Personal Services Regulation and Standards and do they have the skills and knowledge to perform their duties in a safe and sanitary manner?
      • Operator’s knowledge of classifying equipment as non-critical, semi-critical, and critical was found to be unsatisfactory. During the inspection, the classification of equipment and relevant personal services legislation were briefly discussed. The operator was advised to review the Personal Services Regulations and Standards, and links to the legislation have been provided via email.Ensure you have sufficient knowledge to correctly categorize equipment in order to use the appropriate disinfectant.
    • 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
      • 1-Test strips for High-level disinfectant (HLD) were not available. HLD was reportedly being tested using pH test strips instead of HLD-specific test strips. The operator was educated on the importance of using the correct test strips for each disinfectant.Obtain HLD-specific test strips and test the HLD daily prior to use and enter test results in the sheet. Do not re-use HLD until test strips are obtained test HLD every day.2-HLD testing records were not properly maintained. An AHS template for the HLD daily testing log was provided to the operator.3-No low-level disinfectant was available in the facility to disinfect non-critical equipment and environmental surfaces, such as the bed.Obtain a low-level disinfectant with a valid Drug Identification Number (DIN) and expiration date to disinfect non-critical environmental surfaces.
    • 31. Are sinks accessible and used appropriately for the personal services provided?
      • The reprocessing sink was lacking a fixed plumbing installation for sewage disposal. The drain pipe from the sink does not appear to be connected to a proper plumbing system or municipal drainage. Instead, it is positioned above the detergent container, and wastewater is being discharged into the container. which is not acceptable for a reprocessing sink. There is no visible P-trap or permanent piping connection, which is required for sanitary drainage. Proper plumbing with a secure connection to the municipal sewer system is required.Arrange for the sink to be connected to the municipal drainage system by a certified plumber. Ensure the plumbing meets municipal standards and is capable of safely disposing of wastewater. Provide confirmation to the undersigned once the corrective work is completed.
