- 10. Is cleansing and antisepsis of skin and mucous membrane performed in accordance to written procedures and are suitable products being used?
- Alcohol swabs in the back supply room were expired in 2019. Facility owner discarded the alcohol swabs and indicated different antiseptic products are used during services. The antiseptics used were observed non-expired at the time of inspection and with a required Drug Identification Number (Baxedin Pre-op DIN#01936441).Ensure that all antiseptic products have a DIN or NPN by Health Canada, non-expired, and used as manufacturing instructions for all mucous membrane and invasive skin services.
- 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
- High-level disinfection test strips were expired in April 2024. A new, non-expired, and sealed container of test strips was already onsite. Facility owner discarded the old container and opened the new one.Ensure that the high-level disinfection solution is tested using the non-expired test strips and the manufacturing instructions of use to verify the minimum concentration for effective disinfection of semi-critical tools.Note: During the inspection a new high-level disinfectant log was started by staff to include the new test strip information.
