Inspection summary
Grand Union Cafe has been inspected 3 times by Interior Health Authority since March 29, 2023. The most recent inspection, on September 19, 2025, found no infractions.
1 of 3 inspections on record found no infractions at all. No inspections are on record from the past 12 months. The higher-risk findings here relate to: Cleaning and sanitizing and Protecting food from contamination.
What these findings mean
Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.
Cleaning and sanitizingHigher risk
Anything that touches food, such as cutting boards, dishes and utensils, must be washed, rinsed and sanitized. Inspectors check dishwasher temperatures, sanitizer strength and how wiping cloths are stored. Poor sanitizing lets bacteria survive from one use to the next.
Recorded 2 times across 2 separate inspections, most recently on October 24, 2024. For example:
3 Are food contact surfaces, utensils and equipment washed and sanitized in a manner that removes/prevents contamination?
Protecting food from contaminationHigher risk
This covers how food is stored, prepared and displayed: raw meat kept away from ready-to-eat food, food covered and stored off the floor, and nothing dripping or splashing into it. Cross-contamination from raw to cooked food is a direct route for salmonella and E. coli.
Recorded once on March 29, 2023. For example:
5 Are the premises and equipment properly maintained and operated in a sanitary manner (i.e. ongoing maintenance)?
Permits, records and postingLower risk
Operating permits, required signage, written procedures and logs. These findings are administrative: the documentation was missing or out of date at the time of inspection.
Recorded 3 times across 2 separate inspections, most recently on October 24, 2024. For example:
3 Are written food handling procedures (Food Safety Plan) current and available on site?
Other findingsLower risk
Findings that do not fit the categories above, such as follow-ups that confirm an earlier violation was corrected, or requirements specific to this type of facility.
Recorded once on March 29, 2023. For example:
1 Does the facility have proper monitoring supplies?

A wonderful little spot in a cool little town on Highway 3. Don’t forget to stop in Hedley and check out the food here. Seating inside or out is a wonderful place to have a meal. The inside is thoughtfully curated with beautiful antiques. I must stop and see on your highway 3 road trip!

Saw the signs for this little spot during our drive from Osoyoos to Hope, and decided to pop in for a sweet treat. Once we walked in and saw that they had homemade black bean burgers on the menu, we decided to enjoy lunch there too. What a great decision! The food was delish and the cozy country vibe a perfect match. Loved it all and so glad we made the stop!

Cute coffee shop in the tiny town, I think it's also the only cafe in Hedley. It's a nice stop on the highway 3 for a quick hot drink and some pastries. The owner seems nice. I like the vibe here but not so much the drinks. My London fog tea was just plain.
