Inspection summary
Hedley Museum Tea Room has been inspected 6 times by Interior Health Authority since July 3, 2015. The most recent inspection, on September 2, 2025, found no infractions.
2 of 6 inspections on record found no infractions at all. No inspections are on record from the past 12 months. The higher-risk findings here relate to: Cleaning and sanitizing, Food temperature control and Food source, labelling and allergens.
Recent inspections have recorded fewer infractions than earlier ones, so the record is improving.
What these findings mean
Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.
Cleaning and sanitizingHigher risk
Anything that touches food, such as cutting boards, dishes and utensils, must be washed, rinsed and sanitized. Inspectors check dishwasher temperatures, sanitizer strength and how wiping cloths are stored. Poor sanitizing lets bacteria survive from one use to the next.
Recorded 2 times across 2 separate inspections, most recently on July 28, 2022. For example:
3 Are food contact surfaces, utensils and equipment washed and sanitized in a manner that removes/prevents contamination?
Food temperature controlHigher risk
Bacteria multiply fastest between about 4 °C and 60 °C (40 °F to 140 °F). Inspectors check that cold food stays cold, hot food stays hot, cooked food is cooled quickly, and that staff have accurate thermometers. Temperature problems are one of the most common causes of food poisoning, so these are treated as critical findings.
Recorded once on July 28, 2022. For example:
2 Are proper temperature controls maintained to ensure safe storage and display of foods?
Food source, labelling and allergensHigher risk
Food must come from approved suppliers, stay in labelled containers and be thrown out when it is spoiled or damaged, such as dented or swollen cans. Labelling matters for allergies: an unlabelled container can hide an allergen.
Recorded once on July 3, 2015. For example:
10 - Are foods from approved sources?
Handwashing and staff hygieneHigher risk
Hands are the main way germs like norovirus move from people to food. Inspectors look for stocked, accessible handwashing sinks, staff washing hands when required, hair restraints, and sick employees being kept away from food. Gaps here can spread illness quickly.
Recorded once on July 3, 2015. For example:
15 - Are there handwashing stations available and properly supplied?
Permits, records and postingLower risk
Operating permits, required signage, written procedures and logs. These findings are administrative: the documentation was missing or out of date at the time of inspection.
Recorded 3 times across 2 separate inspections, most recently on July 19, 2018. For example:
1 Are proper cooking procedures followed?

It was an interesting visit. They have archives of the mine workers from way back, class photos from the old school, fun displays, and a nice tea room. I highly recommend the "treasure hunt" activity, lemon meringue pie, and root beer float.

We were just looking for a quick spot to stretch our legs during a long road trip and stumbled upon this absolute treasure. The highlight was a really wonderful, knowledgeable gentleman who gave us an amazing breakdown of the local history. It’s a beautiful little spot with a great small gift shop and a lovely cafe. Make sure to grab a root beer float while you're there it’s the perfect road trip treat. Highly recommend stopping in!

Hedley is a pretty cool little half abandoned mine town . I wish we could see the actual mine village on the cliff.

We stopped by here on the way to Oliver for a stretch of the legs and a bathroom break. This little museum has alot of history, which you can quickly go through and it’s a nice break from driving. It was interesting to see the old mining equipment, uniforms and all the pictures. They also have some old ice skates, tennis rackets (I used to have some similar ones), baseball gear and scouting and military uniforms. Across the street there is a Gold Panning display with some larger mining equipment which you can have a look at after you park. There also some brochures and naps and some people working at the tourist information desk if you have any questions. Lots of interesting items to look at. I’m glad we stopped in as it’s definitely worth a look!

Hedley Museum is a warm, memory‑filled little gem. A lovely grandma welcomed us in and shared Hedley’s stories and mining history with so much heart. Felt like visiting family.
