      • Facility-specific written procedures are not established for the following:- Cleansing of skin and mucous membranes.- Client care following an accidental skin cut or puncture.Corrective Action:- Operator advised that procedures were created using AHS templates. - Advised operator to provide a copy for review and to ensure they are available on-site for staff reference.

      • 1) Single-use plastic portion containers/cups with lids that cannot be properly cleaned are being reused.Corrective Action:Advised the facility to discontinue reusing single-use plastic portion containers/cups and lids that cannot be properly cleaned and sanitized.2) Single-use brow brushes for brow tinting are reused between clients.Corrective Action:Advised operator to ensure single-use brow brushes are used only one client then discarded.

      • Brow tint supplies were visibly unclean, including the plastic tray/bin. Corrective Action:Ensure brow tint supplies are maintained in a clean and sanitary condition and protected from contamination during storage.

      • 1) An expired bottle of high-level disinfectant (PREempt CS20) was discovered. However, facility has a large bottle that is not expired available for use.Corrective Action:Advised operator to not use the expired high-level disinfectant (PREempt CS20).2) Facility does not test high-level disinfectant and does not maintain a log to document high-level disinfectant usage and test results.Corrective Action:- Provided the AHS high-level disinfectant log template and reviewed it with the operator.- Operator had appropriate test strips available and opened a new container during the inspection.- Ensure the high-level disinfectant usage and testing log is maintained at all times.

      • Staff indicated a cleaner/disinfectant is used with only one application step for both cleaning and disinfection of pedicure foot bath basins.Corrective Action:Ensure the following two-step procedure is followed for the cleaning and disinfection of pedicure foot bath basins:1) Clean: Thoroughly clean the basin to remove all visible debris and residue.2) Disinfect: Apply the disinfectant (in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions, ensuring surfaces remain wet for the required contact time.)

    • 03. Are facility-specific written procedures established to adequately describe safe and sanitary practices?
      • Facility was unable to provide written procedure forms. Templates were provided during the inspection for cleansing skin, post-service care and accidental skin cuts and punctures. Please fill out these templates and submit to EPH for review.
    • 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
      • High-level disinfectant and intermediate-level disinfectant (PreEMPT CS20 and RTU) were both expired in 2024. Facility had been using a fresh solution of CS20 daily, so testing of the solution was not being performed. The operator was instructed to purchase new CS20 and RTU as soon as possible. A couple of hours after the inspection, the operator submitted photos of newly purchased CS20 and RTU with that will expire in 2027. Appropriate CS20 test strips (AHP7) were also purchased. A high-level disinfection log was provided during the inspection and will be used moving forward.Please ensure all disinfectants are not expired in the future.
    • 26. Are cosmetic products appropriate for their intended use and being handled properly?
      • The facility was found to be using Regal Nails EMA Sculpting Liquid, which contains N-Dimethyl-p-toluidine. Toluidines and their isomers are prohibited for use in cosmetic products as per the Health Canada Cosmetic Ingredient Hotlist.After discussing this finding, the operator agreed to remove the product from the facility. Please submit photos with ingredient lists visible for any product purchased as a substitute to EPH.

      • The reprocessing sink was reportedly being used for hand washing. Operator will post a sign on the sink "No Hand washing" and remove the soap and paper towel from the sink. The sink in the washroom will be used for hand washing.

      • Cleaner/disinfectant available for the surfaces did not have DIN. Selecting a disinfectant for equipment was discussed with the help of AHS resource. Printed material provided for future reference.
    • 27. Is the facility maintained in a visibly clean state and are environmental surfaces cleaned and disinfected properly?
      • The sheets and blanket on the waxing station were noted being non-sanitizable and absorbent. Reportedly not being laundered after each client. Discussed with operator and decided that the covers will not be provided to each client and will be laundered after each use.Ensure all surfaces in the facility are cleanable, impervious to moisture and in good repair.
