Inspection summary

Lynn Valley Meats has been inspected 18 times by Vancouver Coastal Health since October 5, 2015. The most recent inspection, on September 23, 2026, found no infractions.

13 of 18 inspections on record found no infractions at all. In the past 12 months there was 1 inspection with 0 infractions recorded. The higher-risk findings here relate to: Cleaning and sanitizing and Protecting food from contamination.

The last 2 inspections in a row found no infractions. The number of infractions per inspection has stayed roughly the same over time.

What these findings mean

Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.

  • Cleaning and sanitizingHigher risk

Anything that touches food, such as cutting boards, dishes and utensils, must be washed, rinsed and sanitized. Inspectors check dishwasher temperatures, sanitizer strength and how wiping cloths are stored. Poor sanitizing lets bacteria survive from one use to the next.

Recorded once on October 5, 2015. For example: All equipment, food contact surfaces, utensils, dishes & glasses used on the premises are washed and sanitized in a manner that removes contamination.

  • Protecting food from contaminationHigher risk

This covers how food is stored, prepared and displayed: raw meat kept away from ready-to-eat food, food covered and stored off the floor, and nothing dripping or splashing into it. Cross-contamination from raw to cooked food is a direct route for salmonella and E. coli.

Recorded once on October 5, 2015. For example: Each employee washes their hands as often as necessary to prevent the contamination of food.

  • Permits, records and postingLower risk

Operating permits, required signage, written procedures and logs. These findings are administrative: the documentation was missing or out of date at the time of inspection.

Recorded 8 times across 5 separate inspections, most recently on August 27, 2025. For example: Operator of a food service establishment has developed, maintained, and followed approved written procedures to ensure that a health hazard does not occur.

This shop is out of the way but really good selection and kind owner. The owner gave me some fresh hummus first time I went in. Looks like some hand made things like butter chicken sauce. The meats here seem to be of much better quality than other places we are buying from. Hormone free chicken was so moist I had to check it was actually cooked thoroughly. We got some frozen sausage and my lady said it might be the best sausage she ever had. This is my new go to. Thank you!

The owner is very friendly. They have fresh lamb air-freighted from New Zealand every two weeks, and the prices are quite good.

This is the kind of shop that brings you nostalgia. Fred, the owner, is a gem of a human being, the food is incredibly high quality and the prices are very fair. It is clean and charming, and I hope they remain in business for years to come, this country needs more people like Fred, and more businesses like this.

We discovered this hidden gem after reading glowing online reviews. We tried the chicken cordon bleu tonight…the chicken was very moist with lots of cheese/ham. The breading was really light unlike other cordon bleu we have tried. The prices are reasonable, as well. We would highly recommend Lynn Valley Butcher!
