    • 02. Has the operator notified the RHA of the existence of a personal service business, including contact and location information, as well as all personal services currently offered or new personal services that will be offered for facilities and/or special events?
      • Personal Services Notification (PSN) form submission required. Information regarding the form was provided to the operator by PHI via email.
    • 03. Are facility-specific written procedures established to adequately describe safe and sanitary practices?
      • Written documents were not available upon request of the PHI, regarding skin preparation, post-service care, and client care.
    • 06. Do operators and personal services workers comply with the Personal Services Regulation and Standards and do they have the skills and knowledge to perform their duties in a safe and sanitary manner?
      • The operator did not prepare the Barbicide according to the manufacturer's instructions (dilution and frequency of preparation). The operator was informed to follow the manufacturer's guidelines for proper preparation moving forward.
    • 08. Is hand hygiene performed by the personal services worker when required, in a proper manner and are provisions available to perform hand hygiene?
      • No paper towels or single-use towels were available in the washroom at the time of inspection. The operator provided clean single-use towels on the counter and placed a basket for used towels.
    • 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
      • Non-critical items, including brushes, combs, and scissors were soaked in Barbicide; however, the disinfectant solution had not been prepared in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

      • During the inspection, it was observed that only one clipperside was in use across five stations in the facility. Two operators interviewed stated that clipperside are only used at the start of the shift. PHI instructed the operators to disinfect clippers, brushes, and combs after each client and to obtain additional supplies to ensure proper disinfection is consistently achieved.

    • 26. Are cosmetic products appropriate for their intended use and being handled properly?
      • A pot of facial wax was found uncovered and had a considerable amount of hair inside and stuck to the dried wax on the rim. The product was disposed of at the instruction of the PHI. Ensure that a proper cover is used to protect from contamination, and only use waxing sticks once to prevent contamination.
