- 03. Are clients at this facility being protected from hazards (Critical)?
- 1. A heavy-framed mirror was observed in the OSC classroom. The mirror did not have shatterproof film applied. Ensure that any mirrors used within the facility are fitted with shatterproof film and securely anchored to the wall. The operator removed the mirror from the classroom during the inspection.2. One of the white shelving units in the OSC room was in disrepair and had exposed nails. Ensure all furniture is maintained in good repair and free of hazards. The shelving unit was removed from the classroom during the inspection.

- 1. Tall shelving units in the toddler classroom were easily movable and may present a tipping hazard. Please securely anchor all tall furniture.2. Some shelving units in Room 4 were not secured and may present a tipping hazard. Please anchor the shelving units securely.3. Nails were protruding from one of the toy shelving units. Please remove or secure the nails to eliminate the hazard.

- 1. No paper towel holder was available for sanitary storage of paper towels. Please install appropriate paper towel dispensers or holders.

- The first aid kit was missing essential items, including an emergency blanket and CPR valve. Please ensure the first aid kit is fully stocked with all required supplies and regularly checked for completeness.

- Garbage bins throughout the facility were not lined. Please thoroughly clean and sanitize all garbage bins and ensure liners are used at all times.

- 1. The blue table in the OSC room was observed to be in disrepair. Please repair or replace the table to ensure it remains safe and in good condition.

- 1. The baseboard in the toddler classroom is in disrepair. Please repair the damaged section.2. The walls in the toddler classroom were visibly dirty. Please clean and maintain all wall surfaces in a sanitary condition.3. The surface of one of the toy shelving units was damaged and porous. Please repair or replace the shelving unit to ensure it is smooth and easily cleanable.4. The exterior surfaces of the handwashing sinks in the infant room were dirty. Please clean and sanitize thoroughly.5. Sections of the wall in Room 4 were in disrepair. Please repair the damaged wall surfaces.6. The foot pedal on a garbage bin was not functioning properly. Please repair or replace the garbage bin.

- 1. Toys with visible glue residue, dirt, and bite marks were observed in the infant classroom. Ensure all toys are maintained in a clean and sanitary condition and are free from damage. The operator removed the affected toys from the classroom during the inspection.2. Two foam chairs with exposed foam and soiled covers, as well as one chair with uncleanable glue residue, were observed in the infant room. Ensure all furniture is non-porous, easily cleanable, and maintained in good repair. The operator removed the chairs from the classroom during the inspection.

- 1. A designated mouthed-toy bin was not available in the classroom. Please provide a clearly labelled container for mouthed or contaminated toys.

- Some children's water bottles were not labelled. Ensure all personal drinking containers are clearly labelled with the child's name.

- Flies, appearing to be fruit flies, were observed around garbage bins in the infant room and Room 4. Maintain the facility in a sanitary condition and implement measures to eliminate flies. Contact a licensed pest control operator if necessary.

- Cleaning rags were stored on a shelf of the diapering station in the infant room. Please ensure the following:- cleaning rags are used only once and then disposed of or laundered. This prevents cross-contamination and bacterial spread. - place clearly labeled bins in each classroom for used rags

- 1. A plastic cover was placed over the diapering mat in the infant room, making effective cleaning and sanitizing difficult. Ensure the diapering surface is smooth, non-absorbent, and easily cleanable. The operator removed the plastic cover during the inspection.

- The toy shelf on the left side of the door in room A has exposed raw wood and is rough.Please ensure all shelves and cupboards are smooth and easy to clean. Sand down the raw wood and paint the areas.
- 09. Are properly operating hand washing sink(s) available in suitable location(s), and properly stocked with handwashing supplies?
- There are no paper towels and soap at the hand wash sink in room A. There is no soap at the hand wash sink in room B.Please ensure the hand wash sinks are equipped with paper towels and soap at all times. The staff replaced the paper towels and soap immediately at the time of inspection.

- 1. The hand wash sink on the right hand side of the washroom in room B has very little water pressue.2. The caulking/silicone around the hand wash sinks in all of the classrooms is heavily stained and water damaged. 1. Repair the hand wash sink and ensure there is enough water pressure to facilitate proper hand washing.2. Remove the old caulking/silicone, clean the area, and re-do the caulking/silicone.

- 01. Is the child care facility in compliance with verbal and/or written approvals and/or orders issued by an Executive Officer, and is the Executive Officer able to exercise their duties without obstruction or interference?
- The staff informed the inspector that they cannot let him in because the director/owner was not on site. The staff mentioned that they need to call the director first and for the director to come on site before they can allow the inspector to conduct the inspection. The inspector informed the staff that the director does not have to be present on site, and that they inspector was completing a routine, unannounced inspection. Thus, the inspector also informed the staff that the authority to inspect the facility was granted by the Alberta Public Health Act. Pleaser ensure to educate all staff to allow public health inspectors to conduct inspections of the facility upon request and after disclosing their identity. Failure to allow inspectors to inspect the facility is an Obstruction of an Executive Officer. Ensure that this does not happen again in the future.

- Some electrical outlets in the pre-school room and toddlers' room were not covered. The inspector informed the staff/operator that all accessible electrical outlets must be covered. The outlets were covered afterwards.

- There was no paper towel in the handwashing station in the pre-school room. Paper towels were obtained, but the towels were not placed in suitable paper towel dispenser. Please ensure that all paper towels are placed in suitable dispensers. The operator committed to putting them in a dispenser.**PUT PAPER TOWELS IN SUITABLE DISPENSERS.

- The alcohol wipes in the first-aid kits were expired. The inspector informed the staff/operator to ensure that they have a system in place that verifies that all first-aid kit supplies are still adequate and not expired. New alcohol wipes were obtained.
- 21. Is the plumbing system adequate and being properly maintained (Critical)?
- The hot water temperature of the handwashing stations in both the pre-school room and toddlers' room was measured at 55.5°C. The inspector informed the staff/operator that the maximum water temperature cannot exceed 54°C, and recommended to be below 49°C. Please configure the water temperature, as indicated.

- Water bottles in the pre-school room were not labelled with clients' names. The inspector informed the staff that all water bottles must be properly labelled with clients' names. The bottles were labelled afterwards.
