    • 07. Are the filtration, circulation and disinfection systems used to maintain water quality working properly (Non-Critical)?
      • The flow meter reading was 92 GPM. Operator's records show a flow of 66 gpm (250 lpm)One Pentair Triton II, Model TR 100 high-rate sand filter. Manufacturer's specs: filtration area 4.91 sq ft, max rate of filtration 15 gpm/sq ft, max flow rate 74 gpm. Rate of filtration: 92 gpm / 4.91 sq ft = 18.73 gpm/sq ft which exceeds both the maximum rate of filtration for the Pool Standards of 15 gpm/sq foot as well as the maximum rate of filtration for the filter.Must address the on-going issue with the filter spec exceedances. You must reduce the flow of the system, so it does not exceed the operational requirements of the filter but still meet the turnover requirement. Try operating the system at a flow of about 10% less than the max design flow of the filter which would be about 67 gpm which would have a max rate of filtration of 13.6 gpm/sq ft. Turn flow down immediately and ensure the pool is operated within the limitations of the equipment and within the legislated regulations and standards. Operating the filter over its capacity can damage the filter and affect water disinfection by forming channels in the sand. Channeling causes the water to flow quickly through the sand, which can lead to higher contaminant levels, prior to disinfection. This can decrease the efficacy of the chlorine and can lead to the formation of disinfection by products which affects disinfection as well as indoor air quality. Try reducing the flow through the system - using valves etc. If this does not work, then different equipment will be required ie. smaller pump/variable speed pump, new filter with a higher designed flow rate. Any proposed changes to any equipment must be approved by the health inspector prior to purchased/install. A reinspection will be conducted.

    • 07. Are the filtration, circulation and disinfection systems used to maintain water quality working properly (Non-Critical)?
      • The flow meter was observed to be at 93 GPM.The sand filter of the pool is a Tagelus TR100. Surface area of the filter is 4.19 sq ft. The max filtration rate is 15 GPM/sq ft. The max filtration flow rate 74 GPM as per the manufacturer's spec plate. Maximum rate of filtration: 93 GPM/ 4.19 sq ft = 22.19 GPM/sq ft which is outside of the regulated standards and the manufacturer's spec of 15 GPM/sq ft. Flow rate that was observed (95GPM) does exceed the maximum filtration flow rate of 74. Please ensure that the flow rate is reduced to prevent further damage to the filter and to ensure safe pool operation. Please be sure to have the float gauge cleaned to properly observe the flow rate.
