    • 03. Are facility-specific written procedures established to adequately describe safe and sanitary practices?
      • Written procedures were not available-Cleaning and disinfection of re-usable tools-For preparation of the skin-Accidental skin puncture-Post service care
    • 06. Do operators and personal services workers comply with the Personal Services Regulation and Standards and do they have the skills and knowledge to perform their duties in a safe and sanitary manner?
      • -Personal Services workers lacked the skills and knowledge to perform their duties in a safe and sanitary manner.-they were not able to classify equipment as non-critical, semi-critical and critical; and-they were not following manufacturer’s instructionsThe operator was using HLD5 (a high-level disinfectant) for disinfecting environmental surfaces.The operator was advised to discontinue this practice and follow manufacturer's instructions prior to any application. Classification of equipment used in the facility was also discussed with the operator.
    • 10. Is cleansing and antisepsis of skin and mucous membrane performed in accordance to written procedures and are suitable products being used?
      • -An antiseptic product is not being applied prior to a service that will puncture the skin. Ensure an antiseptic product is used prior to any service that involves puncturing of skin.
    • 11. Is post-service care provided by personal service workers following any personal service or accident where a client's skin or mucous membrane is cut or punctured during a personal service, or when energy-emitting equipment is used?
      • -Clients are not provided with written care instructions following a service that punctures the skin or mucous membrane. Ensure after-care instructions are available.
    • 12. Are personal services workers at the facility maintaining client records and where applicable, sterility documentation corresponding to that client?
      • The sterility assurance information available for each client was not sufficient to ensure sterility of the pre-sterile needle cartridges used in the facility for providing microneedling services.The operator was advised to acquire pre-sterile needle cartridges with proper lot numbers, expiry dates and manufacturer's information or the method used for sterilization of the needles.
    • 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
      • Callus removers (semi-critical tools) were not disinfected properly. They were too big to fit into the container available and soaked in the high-level disinfectant for appropriate disinfection.The operator was advised to acquire a bigger container to completely soak the semi-critical tools to ensure proper disinfection.
    • 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
      • - High level disinfectants are not being tested and verified daily using proper test strips. Ensure the high-level disinfectant is tested daily using the test strips specified by the disinfectant manufacturer.- Disinfection records were not available. Ensure records are kept of: test dates, whether the solution passed/failed, when the disinfectant was changed and the worker’s initials who performed the activity.
    • 26. Are cosmetic products appropriate for their intended use and being handled properly?
      • The bottles with the products used for pedicure were not labelled.The operator was advised to label the bottles.
