- 19. Does the facility have a valid permit and does the facility operate in compliance with the conditions of that permit, or is the facility awaiting approval prior to operation?
- Yes (corrected during inspection) - the Food Handling Permit is current (expiry date of September 30, 2026) but was not posted in a conspicuous location on public display. This was corrected at time of inspection, and the operator reminded to ensure the Food Handling Permit is kept continually posted alongside the city business license, visible to the public at all times.

- 08. Do food handlers ensure that food is protected from contamination (unless noted elsewhere)(Non-Critical)?
- Yes (corrected during inspection) - note that the ice scoop was being improperly stored inside the ice machine, with the handle partially immersed in the ice cubes (which can lead to contamination of ice due to the staff contact of the handle). As was discussed on-site, staff were advised to ensure the ice scoop is stored separately outside of the ice machine, on a washable surface or in a food insert, etc.
- 10. Are food temperatures during storage and processing being controlled to maximize food safety?
- No - during the inspection, the upright sliding door refrigeration unit in the rear food prep area was at a constant ambient air temperature range of 12 to 16 degrees Celsius (with no decrease of temperature during the inspection). Stored perishable food products (i.e. still 'cold' milk, eggs, cheese) inside this refrigeration unit were immediately removed and placed inside the other functional refrigeration units in the food premises. The operator and staff were advised to only use this refrigeration unit for whole vegetables, fruits, herbs, sauces, and other non-perishable food products. There was no immediate identifying issue and the operator was advised to have a technician inspect and repair the unit, so that the air temperature is maintained at the cold-holding required level of 4 degrees Celsius, or lower.
- 19. Does the facility have a valid permit and does the facility operate in compliance with the conditions of that permit, or is the facility awaiting approval prior to operation?
- No - the current and updated Food Handling Permit (FHP) was not available at the food premises (with the expired FHP kept inside a drawer at the front sales counter area).Note that the FHP must be posted in a conspicuous location, visible to the public at all times. Suggestions to the staff included posting the FHP on the side wall or main wall at the front sales counter area.
