- Service providers did not demonstrate an adequate level of knowledge, particularly of disinfection practices or infection prevention and control, including:- not allowing adequate contact time for disinfectant on clippers- not adequately cleaning combs, brushes, or clippers prior to disinfection and/or use on the next client- not bringing hand hygiene supplies- not laundering/disinfecting capes or towels that clients contact between clientsProcedures were reviewed during inspection.Copies of the Personal Service Regulation and Standard were provided by email. Ensure familiarity with the legislation and consult with the health inspector if further clarification is needed.

- Soap and paper towel were not available in the service room.A nearby washroom is available for handwashing.Hand hygiene must be performed prior to providing a personal service, and between every client. Hand hygiene must be performed any time hands may be contaminated. Hand hygiene activities include handwashing or applying hand sanitizer. Note that application of hand sanitizer is only acceptable if hands are visibly clean.

- Capes and towels that contact clients are not being laundered or disinfected between uses on different clients.Re-usable capes, towels, or linens must be laundered or disinfected after each use if they directly contact skin or hair.Note: for today's service there were 7 capes available and approximately 8 clients.

- Operators were requested to complete a PSN by October 22, 2024. Ensure a PSN is submitted. Instructions sent via email.

- Personal service providers do not appear to be performing hand hygiene between clients. Service providers did not bring hand soap, paper towel, or hand sanitizer with them and seemed unaware of the hand soap and hand sanitizer dispensers mounted to the wall in the service room.Hand hygiene must be performed prior to providing a personal service, and between every client. Hand hygiene must be performed any time hands may be contaminated. Hand hygiene activities include handwashing or applying hand sanitizer. Note that application of hand sanitizer is only acceptable if hands are visibly clean.

- When asked if a point of service risk assessment was performed on clients prior to service provision, the answer was no.Ensure a point of service risk assessment is performed on each client prior to performing a personal service. Clients showing signs of infection, infestation, or medical conditions should be refused treatment, or treatment altered to ensure infection prevention and control practices are maintained and injuries are prevented.
- 18. Is reusable equipment cleaned properly (Non-Critical)?
- A barbicide solution left over from the previous hair service day had floaties/hair in it, possibly indicating combs were not adequately cleaned prior to placing in the barbicide.Clippers, brushes, and combs had hair visible on them.Ensure all equipment is thoroughly cleaned (ie all hair/debris) removed prior to disinfection and use on another client.
- 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
- Clippers were not being disinfected. Only clipper oil was being applied.Combs and brushes were not being adequately cleaned prior to disinfection. It is unknown if contact time for barbicide was being met as service providers were not timing how long items were in the disinfectant and were not leaving time between clients to ensure adequate disinfection.All re-usable items must be adequately cleaned and disinfected prior to use on the next client. This includes combs, brushes, clippers, rollers, scissors, etc.Items must be thoroughly cleaned prior to disinfection.Disinfectants must have a disinfectant claim and a DIN (Drug Identification Number).Manufacturer's instructions for use, including contact time, must be followed.Contact time is the length of time the item must remain wet for to achieve effective disinfection.
- 27. Is the facility maintained in a visibly clean state and are environmental surfaces cleaned and disinfected properly?
- There was hair present inside the hairwashing sinks, drawers, and cupboards in the service room.Ensure all surfaces are cleaned at the end of the service day, and throughout the service day as needed.Disinfect surfaces prior to setting up for the day.
