    • F2.5 Are the premises and equipment properly maintained and operated in a sanitary manner (i.e. ongoing maintenance)?
      • Observation(s): 1. Cork board in the meat processing area is not a smooth, non-porous, easily cleanable surface and may harbour bacteria or fungi. As per the National Food Retail & Food Services Code (p 15), all surfaces in a food preparation or storage area must have the above attributes. Please remove this cord board and move to a non-food preparation or storage area or replace with another surface that can be effectively cleaned. 2. A bleach bottle was found under the vegetable preparation sink with no label. Please ensure that all chemical bottles have a label to prevent the accidental contamination of food products or misuse of chemicals. 3. Fans in the walk-in vegetable and meat coolers were accumulating dust and should be wiped down to prevent the contamination of food. 4. Shelving units in the walk-in meat cooler are rusty and require replacing or refurbishing. Rusty shelves may be bumpy and more difficult to clean and the rust may flake-off onto food products. *Majority of food items were stored on pallets and shelving units in refrigerators and dry storage areas, but items in walk-in freezer by the produce/meat sections should also be stored off the ground. This will allow for easier cleaning under items and reduce cross-contamination risk from food debris on floors.

      • F2.5D Chemicals, cleaners and other agents must be properly labelled and stored separately from food to prevent contamination.

      • Observation(s): 1. Fans in the vegetable storage cooler were accumulating dust and needed to be wiped down to prevent the contamination of food. 2. Cutting boards for produce preparation are worn and require replacing. These grooves are more difficult to sanitize and can harbour bacteria.

      • Observation(s): Sanitizer for food contact surfaces was absent from the produce preparation area. Provide an approved sanitizer that is readily available to staff to ensure adequate destruction of pathogens. (Ex. bleach at 100ppm (1/2tsp per 1L water) or QUATS at 250ppm).

      • Observation(s): The produce wood cutting board was in poor working condition. Replace the cutting board with one that is smooth, impervious to moisture, and easily cleanable.
      • 14.2 - All equipment, utensils and food contact surfaces used on the premises must be kept in good working order to ensure the safe and sanitary handling of food.
    • 15 - Are there handwashing stations available and properly supplied?
      • Observation(s): Paper towel was absent from the handwashing sink in the deli. Ensure that paper towel is available at the handwashing sink for drying hand.
      • 15.3 - Handwashing station must be supplied with single-service product for drying hands.

      • Observation(s): In the butcher area, the meat saw is only cleaned and sanitized at the end of the day. It is sometimes used throughout the day. The temperature of the room was 12°C at the time of inspection. If the room is ≥4°C then the meat saw must be taken apart and cleaned and sanitized after every use or at least every 2 hours.
      • 8.4 - Clean In Place warewashing procedures must provide sufficient washing and sanitizing action to remove contamination.
      • 8.7 - Equipment, utensils and food contact surfaces must be cleaned and sanitized in a manner that removes contamination.
    • 14 - Are the premises, equipment and utensils designed and maintained to ensure safe and sanitary food handling?
      • Observation(s): 1. Some of the shelving units in the walk in cooler require more regular cleaning. 2. On the back of some shelving units there is unsealed wood that can absorb moisture and blood from the meat products. All surfaces must be smooth, easily cleanable and impervious to moisture.

    I love Valley Foods! I especially love that there are so many options for people with food allergies/ intolerances. Gluten, dairy, soy, egg free products - this is the best grocery store to get those items in the Invermere region. Everything is fresh and there is a wide assortment of goods, you'll find everything you need. Thank you for stocking allergy friendly products!

    One of the iconic places to visit in this Valley. A store having everything we want, top notch customer service and wide verity of cuisines from the scratch. The products from Nelson , Creston and the local farms are the top attractions. My purchases includes tomahawk from the meat department and the snacks from the Indian section. I loved that combination of snacks and the home made 7 layer Mexican dip from the Deli department. The chef special chicken artichoke lasagna and the hamburger noodle soup was a special treat for my friends. I’m gonna go back there again to pick the shepherds pie next week coz that was the one most of my friends in Calgary recommended me. Thank you AG Valley foods You guys made my day awesome 👌

    It’s no wonder that this place was named best independent grocer. It carries this title so well. One of the workers there looks like Timothée Chalamet and it’s truly crazy, we told him, he didn’t know who Timothée Chalamet was… Guess he’s not a Gen Z. I don’t have any pics of the actual grocery store, but here’s some food that we bought from it. Lots of birthday cakes. We had a fake birthday party for our friend Andrew and he loved it

    I love this store diverse selection of groceries while shopping but when I got to the register I only had US money the cashier wound not allow the exchange rate and told me it would cost me the same regardless of the exchange rate. No other business located in this town treated me this way? So why here?

    Best grocery store in the valley! They carry local goods, and always have fresh perishables. I don't find them to be priced much higher than other options, but their shelves are very well stocked, even during the busier weekends. Great inventory management, great products, and a clean store!
