    • 17. Is the facility and equipment being maintained in a suitable manner (Critical)?
      • Toys were being sanitized using the dishwasher.After running three cycles, the dishwasher reached a temperature of 53.4°C, which is insufficient for proper sanitization. Staff to ensure the dishwasher reaches at least 71°C for effective sanitization.Until appropriate temperatures can be achieved, staff were instructed to use the manual three-step method:WashRinseSanitize (followed by air drying), as explained during the inspection.       • 1) A damaged/broken bin was in use in infant washroom; staff discarded the bin during inspection.2) The diapering mattress was observed to have dust, debris, and hair; staff cleaned the mattress onsite.

      • 1) Toddler Room: Absorbent Tim Hortons cup holders were being used for crafts.These were discarded by staff during the inspection.2) Infant Room: A mouthed toy bin was not available at the time of inspection; staff placed one in the room immediately.

      • 1. The window and door screens of the toddler room is in disrepair. Please repair. 2.The wall paint in upstairs classrooms is chipping. Please repair.

    • 03. Are clients at this facility being protected from hazards (Critical)?
      • 1. Toddler room: Individual plastic bags were stored on the behind area of the reading bench. The plastic bags were accessible to the children. Plastic bags can pose a suffocation hazard to children if they have access to them. Please ensure plastic bags are stored away from children.2. Some paints in the toddler room were labelled to be not used by 0-3 years old. These paints were removed from the classroom.

      • 1. One of the shelves in the baby room is easily moveable. 2. The play refrigerator in the downstairs classroom is easily moveable. Please secure these shelves. 3. Downstairs classroom has a shelf with a moveable section. Children can get their fingers caught in between and injure themselves. Please ensure the moveable section is fixed in place.
    • 06. Are proper protocols being followed in regards to client care?
      • 1. The bleach solution by the diapering area was 50ppm. 2. Staff did not know the correct concentration of the sanitizer (bleach solution) to be used for sanitizing purposes. Violation corrected onsite. Staff was educated on the correct sanitizer concentration requirements. A new 100 ppm bleach solution was made. Please ensure the folloeing:- test strip is used to ensure bleach solution is 100 ppm. - all staff are educated on how to correctly prepare the sanitizing solution.

      • A CPR mask was not available in the first aid kit. Please ensure a CPR mask is available onsite. Additionally, please ensure the first aid kits are replenished in a timely manner with items outlined in Apendix H of Health & Safety Guide for Operators of Child Care Facilities.

      • 1. The window and door screens of the toddler room is in disrepair. Please repair. 2.The wall paint in upstairs classrooms is chipping. Please repair.

      • 1. The vent wells of the classrooms were dirty. Please clean thoroughly. 2. The corner table of the lunchroom was not easily cleanable. Please ensure the surfaces of this table is nonporous, smooth and easily cleanable.

      • Toddler room: A tissue box used as a garbage box with used tissues was on the supplies closet close to the classroom supplies. Please ensure any classroom garbage is discarded immediately to a garbage bin and not stored with clean supplies. Violation corrected onsite.

      • 1. There are two light fixtures in the downstairs preschool room that do not have adequate coverings, bulbs are exposed.- Electrical work is scheduled for the weekend of Feb 17, light fixtures to be upgraded at that time, ensure bulbs are adequately covered to prevent risk of shattering.
