Inspection summary
Broken Hill has been inspected 4 times by Interior Health Authority since August 30, 2022. The most recent inspection, on April 24, 2026, found no infractions.
3 of 4 inspections on record found no infractions at all. In the past 12 months there was 1 inspection with 0 infractions recorded. The higher-risk findings here relate to: Cleaning and sanitizing.

What these findings mean
Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.
Cleaning and sanitizingHigher risk
Anything that touches food, such as cutting boards, dishes and utensils, must be washed, rinsed and sanitized. Inspectors check dishwasher temperatures, sanitizer strength and how wiping cloths are stored. Poor sanitizing lets bacteria survive from one use to the next.
Recorded once on April 2, 2025. For example:
3 Are food contact surfaces, utensils and equipment washed and sanitized in a manner that removes/prevents contamination?
Other findingsLower risk
Findings that do not fit the categories above, such as follow-ups that confirm an earlier violation was corrected, or requirements specific to this type of facility.
Recorded once on April 2, 2025. For example:
1 Does the facility have proper monitoring supplies?

We dined on a BUSY market night on Baker—patio packed and every table taken. We seated at bar (great timing) quickly, and within minutes our server noticed a two-top opening up and moved us over. I've been here a handful of times now, and the service has always been excellent. Food took a little longer than usual, which was completely understandable on a night like that, but our server kept us updated and everything arrived smoothly. The wait never felt frustrating. The smoked duck salad was outstanding. Confit duck leg over greens with pickled onion, pepitas, dried cranberries, and blue cheese—rich without feeling heavy, bright from the pickled onion, and substantial enough to be a full dinner rather than an afterthought. Even as walk-ins on one of their busiest nights, we felt genuinely well looked after. The room was lively without being too loud for conversation, and it's worth knowing the menu goes well beyond smoked meat, with solid vegetarian and vegan options as well.

Absolutely incredible place for lunch or dinner! We split the 1-2 person platter and enjoyed each of their homemade bbq sauces with the meats. The mac & cheese was delicious, the smoked meats were full of flavour and the mocktails were inventive and refreshing! Staff was friendly and welcoming too. Definitely one of my favourite places to eat in Nelson. If I was going to recommend one restaurant in town, it would be this one!

Stopped here for dinner while visiting on a motorcycle rally. Sat outside but inside looks pretty cool. Ordered a few things off the appetizer menu instead of entrees. The ribs and duck wings are really over sauced to the point we couldn’t finish the duck wings. If you got good quality meat and dialed your smoker why drown in so much sauce

Great food and a super friendly server! We were visiting from out of town, and our server even recommended a great place for us to get ice cream after. We ordered The SheBang for 2, and the portion size was amazing. The fried chicken was so flavourful and sooo good!

This restaurant has great staff super patient and kind. This restaurant is a great kid friendly and dog friendly place, everyone was super exicted to meet our dog. Food was amazing would love to eat there again and had lots of great options we got the Smoked Cauliflower Mac, Brisket, and The Slamdunk Burger. Totally recommend this place to eat.

Loved the food and drinks here so much that we came back the next day to try more of the menu. Their staff were all super friendly. TJ was really patient with us and gave us great tips on everything from whisky and food, to ski trails to hit up at whitewater. We had their beef cheeks, duck legs and brisket mac and cheese on the first night. Everything was made to perfection. FYI their smoker doesn't open til 5pm and menu is a bit different earlier in the day. Definitely would recommend to anyone stopping through Nelson!

We had the best time! Our server Zach was great, very welcoming. The food was to die for and so were the drinks, both with alcohol and without. Will be recommending to our friends if they are in the area.

I came back to Broken Hill as there food is always great. I was undecided and asked my waitress Lisa what she recommends. I went with her recommendation of the Tennessee Hot(Fried chicken and waffles). It was a huge portion and literally the best chicken/waffles flavor combination. Jalapeño aioli drizzle. Damn. 10/10. Thanks Lisa
