    • 103 - Failure to hold a valid permit while operating a food service establishment [s. 8(1)]
      • Observation: During a routine inspection, discovered that Canco Petroleum had bought out the previous owner Bruce Kidd (Kidd Services Ltd.), and now owns and operates this registered company. Health Approval, and/or Permits to Operate, are not transferrable. As the previous owner Bruce Kidd is no longer involved in the corporation it is consider a change in ownership, and therefore, Canco #172 is currently operating without a valid Permit to Operate. Public Health significance - Facilities are approved when they are adequately equipped to accommodate and facilitate safe food preparation. Unapproved facilities may not have the sanitary or food preparation equipment and processes in place to safely produce food products for human consumption.
      • Corrective Action: Provide an Application package for a Permit to Operate through Northern Health. Additional information was provided via email.
    • 302 - Critical Equipment/utensils/food contact surfaces not properly washed and sanitized [s. 17(2)]
      • Observation: During the inspection, I did not observe a food-grade sanitizer on-site. Furthermore, dirty wiping cloths were left out between use. Public Health significance - Food-grade sanitizers are required on-site in order to kill off disease-causing organisms that can lead to foodborne illness. Cloths once used can harbor and grow bacteria if left as used at room temperature.
      • Corrective Action: Operator needs to have dish detergent and a food-grade sanitizer readily available (200 ppm bleach, 200 ppm QUATs, or any chemical that has a drug identification number (DIN), states that it is a sanitizer that can be used on food-contact surfaces and has a contact time of 5 minutes or less is also acceptable). Furthermore, staff will either need to use disposable paper towel & a spray bottle of sanitizer or keep reusable clothes in a sanitizer solution at all times when not being used.
