    • 26. Are cosmetic products appropriate for their intended use and being handled properly?
      • Two cosmetic products were found expired:Footlogix callus softener - expired 07/24Footlogix foot soak - expired 03/23Operator stated that products had recently been purchased.Expired products cannot be used on clients. Remove from the facility or discard.When purchasing products, ensure that products are not expired.

    • 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
      • All disinfectants observed in the facility were expired between 2018-2022.Some items, including hairbrushes and combs were not being disinfected.Semi-critical items such as nippers, clippers, and cuticle pushers were not being disinfected properly with a high level disinfectant.Disinfection requirements were reviewed during inspection:Non critical items (contact only intact skin) must be disinfected with a low level or intermediate level disinfectant.Low level disinfectants have a disinfectant claim on the label and a DIN (Drug Identification Number). Intermediate level disinfectants also have a tuberculocidal claim.Contact times specified on the label must be followed. Contact time is the length of time the instrument or surface must remain damp/wet for to allow for effective disinfection.Semi critical instruments (those that may contact non-intact skin or mucous membranes but are not designed to puncture them) must be disinfected with a high level disinfectant.A high level disinfectant will state "high level disinfectant" or have a sporicidal claim on the label. High level disinfectants are issued a MDL (Medical Device License).Contact time and use instructions on the label must be followed.Obtain appropriate disinfectants and use according to label directions.Instruments must be properly cleaned and disinfected:- clean with soap and water to remove debris or grease- rinse- dry- submerge in disinfectant for the required contact time - rinse with potable water- allow instrument to air dry- store instruments so they are protected from contaminationFor high level disinfection, a high level disinfectant log must be maintained.     • 30. Is the reprocessing area of a personal service facility that uses reusable equipment properly designed, managed and maintained to ensure the safety of clients?
      • The area around the reprocessing sink was very disorganized with no set flow from dirty to clean.The reprocessing area must be organized so items have a one way work flow from dirty to clean.Items that have been cleaned and/or disinfected must be stored so they do not become recontaminated. This may be accomplished by moving items away from the sink or installing a splash guard.

    • 08. Is hand hygiene performed by the personal services worker when required, in a proper manner and are provisions available to perform hand hygiene?
      • 1. Facility uses cloths for drying hands and launders after each use.Clean cloths were in a laundry basket a few steps away from the sink.The dirty cloth bin was located halfway across the store.Ensure cloths for drying hands are readily available near the hand sink. A bin for used towels must be in close proximity to the hand sink.2. Used gloves were found in three locations in the facility: near instruments on the right hand side of the hand sink, near instruments on the left hand side of the hand sink, and in the hairstyling space.Discard used gloves into the trash bin immediately after removal. Do not reuse gloves.
    • 14. Is single-use or uncleanable equipment being used as intended (Non-Critical)?
      • Several used single use files were observed near the reprocessing/hand sink.Personal service provider stated that the purpose of the files was to file down new files to prevent injury as the edges are sharp.If files will be used for filing down service files, use only one and label it as to its intended purpose. Discard files once they are worn.Used files were discarded during inspection.

      • There were instruments present on both sides of the sink. Clean instruments were stored close to the sink where water from handwashing could splash on them.The reprocessing area must be organized so items have a one way work flow from dirty to clean.Items that have been cleaned and/or disinfected must be stored so they do not become recontaminated. This may be accomplished by moving items away from the sink or installing a splash guard.
