Inspection summary
Dosa Vilas has been inspected 4 times by Interior Health Authority since April 3, 2024. The most recent inspection, on April 15, 2026, found no infractions.
1 of 4 inspections on record found no infractions at all. In the past 12 months there were 2 inspections with 5 infractions recorded. The higher-risk findings here relate to: Protecting food from contamination, Food temperature control and Pests.
The number of infractions per inspection has stayed roughly the same over time.
What these findings mean
Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.
Protecting food from contaminationHigher risk
This covers how food is stored, prepared and displayed: raw meat kept away from ready-to-eat food, food covered and stored off the floor, and nothing dripping or splashing into it. Cross-contamination from raw to cooked food is a direct route for salmonella and E. coli.
Recorded 2 times across 2 separate inspections, most recently on March 19, 2026. For example:
5 Are the premises and equipment properly maintained and operated in a sanitary manner (i.e. ongoing maintenance)?
Food temperature controlHigher risk
Bacteria multiply fastest between about 4 °C and 60 °C (40 °F to 140 °F). Inspectors check that cold food stays cold, hot food stays hot, cooked food is cooled quickly, and that staff have accurate thermometers. Temperature problems are one of the most common causes of food poisoning, so these are treated as critical findings.
Recorded once on July 2, 2025. For example:
2 Are proper temperature controls maintained to ensure safe storage and display of foods?
PestsHigher risk
Signs of mice, rats, cockroaches or flies, or gaps and clutter that let them get in or hide. Pests carry bacteria and can contaminate food and surfaces, so evidence of activity is treated seriously and usually triggers a follow-up visit.
Recorded once on July 2, 2025. For example:
2 Are proper pest control measures in place on the premises?
Handwashing and staff hygieneHigher risk
Hands are the main way germs like norovirus move from people to food. Inspectors look for stocked, accessible handwashing sinks, staff washing hands when required, hair restraints, and sick employees being kept away from food. Gaps here can spread illness quickly.
Recorded once on April 3, 2024. For example:
7 Are there handwashing stations available and properly supplied?
Permits, records and postingLower risk
Operating permits, required signage, written procedures and logs. These findings are administrative: the documentation was missing or out of date at the time of inspection.
Recorded 2 times on March 19, 2026. For example:
3 Are written food handling procedures (Food Safety Plan) current and available on site?

- F2.1 Does the facility have proper monitoring supplies?
- Observation(s): Bleach strips needed for manually washing dishes while waiting for the dishwasher to be fixed. Please let me know when these have been purchased. Bleach concentration for washing dishes in the sink should be 200ppm
- F2.5 Are the premises and equipment properly maintained and operated in a sanitary manner (i.e. ongoing maintenance)?
- Observation(s): Coolers and fridges at time of inspection were dirty and had mold growing in them. All coolers and fridges must be cleaned out with soap and water, rinsed, and then sanitized. Please also repaint any exposed wood inside these coolers. The kitchen had old food buildup on the floors, walls, under cooking line, etc. Floors should be swept and mopped daily, including where you can reach under equipment. The cooking line must also be pulled out to clean and mop when needed, and on a schedule. At the end of the shift, the spice plate must be washed and sanitized as well. Please ensure a regular cleaning schedule. This can also include items on a calendar to be cleaned if it is easier. Comment from July's inspection: The kitchen needs a good cleaning of the surfaces and walls. This will also include under and behind equipment as well as inside coolers. Now that the walk in cooler is in use, the shelving must be washed and any bare exposed wood painted, such as the floor to prevent moisture accumulation. The painting can be done in the fall since it will require time to dry.

This is probably going to be the highest review of mine ever. I’ve not had such delicious food in a LONG TIME. The BEST dosa I’ve had in 6 years. I have roots from south India, but have lived in Vancouver for a long time, and trust me YVR could never. Cam the head chef is so humble but he can cook up a fantastic storm! We ordered the Paneer Butter Masala Dosa and the Chilli Chicken. I wish I could just transport this restaurant to Vancouver honestly, I’d go there with my eyes closed. Maybe worth a 4 hour drive?

This is a great little Indian restaurant. The food is fantastic. It is full of flavor and has the perfect amount of spice. The serving size is good, and the price is reasonable. I am from out of town and it has been about 7 months since I discovered this restaurant. I am so impressed with the improvements they have already made to the atmosphere and I know that they are going to continue to improve as they can. Every time I come to Penticton, I will be sure to eat at Dosa Vilas. The food is that yummy. If you haven't had much Indian food, this is a great place to start.

A great find. The spicing (heat) is adapted to a western palette. Huge Dhosa and delicious. We will be back 😊👍😊

I had an amazing experience at Dosa Vilas in Penticton. The paruppu vada was perfectly crispy on the outside with a flavorful, well- spiced lentil center that made it incredibly satisfying. The Schezwan cheese masala dosa was a standout with its thin, golden crispy texture and a delicious fusion of spicy schezwan sauce and creamy melted cheese, perfectly balanced with the traditional masala filling. Overall, the food was fresh, flavorful and a great blend of authentic taste with a creative twist. Definitely worth trying!

We visited Dosa Villa during the long weekend and realized they were actually closed. But after seeing that we had small kids with us, the owner kindly opened the kitchen just to serve our family. That level of kindness and hospitality truly meant a lot to us. We ordered the kids cheese dosa, chocolate dosa, Nellai masala dosa, spicy masala dosa, and paneer masala dosa — and every single dish was outstanding. The dosas were perfectly crisp, the masala fillings were incredibly flavourful, and the authenticity of the taste reminded us of home. We live in Vancouver and honestly haven’t found this level of authentic South Indian flavour there yet. Our whole family enjoyed every bite. Thank you for the amazing food and for going out of your way to make us feel welcomed. We will definitely visit again whenever we are in Penticton!
