Inspection summary

East Side Mario's has been inspected 2 times by Interior Health Authority since January 9, 2025. The most recent inspection, on January 22, 2026, recorded 2 infractions.

None of the 2 inspections on record were free of infractions. In the past 12 months there was 1 inspection with 2 infractions recorded. The higher-risk findings here relate to: Protecting food from contamination and Cleaning and sanitizing.

What these findings mean

Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.

  • Protecting food from contaminationHigher risk

This covers how food is stored, prepared and displayed: raw meat kept away from ready-to-eat food, food covered and stored off the floor, and nothing dripping or splashing into it. Cross-contamination from raw to cooked food is a direct route for salmonella and E. coli.

Recorded 2 times on January 22, 2026. For example: 7 Are foods protected from contamination?

  • Cleaning and sanitizingHigher risk

Anything that touches food, such as cutting boards, dishes and utensils, must be washed, rinsed and sanitized. Inspectors check dishwasher temperatures, sanitizer strength and how wiping cloths are stored. Poor sanitizing lets bacteria survive from one use to the next.

Recorded once on January 9, 2025. For example: 3 Are food contact surfaces, utensils and equipment washed and sanitized in a manner that removes/prevents contamination?

About this data

These results come from Interior Health Authority, which inspects food premises and other public facilities in this area. We republish the authority's public disclosure data and refresh it regularly; the official record is the final word.

2 inspections

  1. Monitoring

    2 infractions

    • F1.7 Are foods protected from contamination?
      • Observation(s): Excessive ice accumulation was observed inside of the white mini fridge next to the prep cooler. The white mini fridge stored items such as frozen chicken strips and french fries. Chicken strips and fries were stored without a lid or plastic wrap, and items appeared to be nearly touching the ice build up on the top of shelves. Ice drippings may contaminate the food that is stored below.
      • F1.7A The operator must ensure that all food on the premises is protected from contamination.
    • F2.5 Are the premises and equipment properly maintained and operated in a sanitary manner (i.e. ongoing maintenance)?
      • Observation(s): An accumulation of dust was observed on the ceiling and on the light covers over the prep coolers and the grill area in the kitchen. Dust may fall from the ceiling and contaminate food below. Increased cleaning and sanitizing of this area should occur.
      • F2.5B The premises must be properly constructed and maintained in good, clean and sanitary condition.
  2. Monitoring

    1 infraction

    • F2.3 Are food contact surfaces, utensils and equipment washed and sanitized in a manner that removes/prevents contamination?
      • Observation(s): Server station and bar area did not have a surface sanitizer solution prepared during the inspection. Server station had a bucket of soap and water with wiping cloths stored in it which was used for wiping tables and work spaces in the area.
      • F2.3D Sanitizer solution must be available and kept at the correct levels for adequate sanitizing action.

We had tried other chain restaurants in Cranbrook over the years but our experience here led us to claim this is the best chain restaurant in Cranbrook. The server was very attentive, the bead loaf was hot and fresh. My chicken parm was also hot and slightly crispy. Even the restaurant is well kept and very clean. We will be back every couple of weeks.

Had a really good experience at East Side Mario’s. The atmosphere was welcoming and the staff were friendly from the moment we got there. Service was quick and everyone checked in to make sure we had what we needed without being over the top. The food came out fresh, hot, and tasted great. One of the highlights was definitely the bread — warm, soft, and honestly hard to stop eating. It made the meal feel even better. Portions were good and everything felt relaxed and enjoyable.😋😋😋🍞🍞🍞 GO HERE

Food was mediocre, been there a long time ago in a other city and it hasn't changed. Was decently clean in there and the staff was friendly and I think could tell we were in a hurry to eat quick and get back on the road so she was very quick to get menus, order and our food was out very quickly. Offered up the tab while we were finishing, cleared some dishes and we were off. Very much appreciated.

The food was really good. Our server Marissa went above and beyond. Always made sure we had enough of everything. She has a pleasant smile. We need more people like her. Keep up the good work

My first impression was that there was no smell, it didn't smell like food was being cooked. We were there about 2:30-3:00 pm. This restaurant could use an update for decor, just gives off older late 90's/ 2000 vibes in comparison to other ESM like plastic coverings over some of the furniture for protection- i get you want to protect from spills or smells but it doesn't look good, plastic broken chandelier type lights. Service was good and waitress was friendly but there was only 2 other tables dining in the whole place. Food was...meh. Fettuccine Alfredo tastes from a jar, not nothing like homemade taste, chicken tastes and looks like its has come frozen from a box and reheated or kept in water, we didnt eat it. We did call ahead and verify there were gluten friendly options as we have someone with celiac and they were reassuring with this. Portion sizes have definelty decreased, even compared to other ESM and for the price you pay. Positives- good service, Italian wedding soup was good as always and love the bread! But I think on our next trip, we will look for something with a little more homemade and fresh ingredients.
