      • Sterility assurance information for pre-sterilized piercing cartridges (lot number and expiry date) was not being recorded with client records. Record lot number and expiry date on the client records for traceback purposes.
    • 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
      • The operator indicated alcohol was being used in place of a disinfectant to wipe down the piercing machine between clients. Alcohol is not an approved disinfectant. A low or intermediate level disinfectant designed to disinfect equipment must be purchased and used to disinfect the piercing machine prior performing any piercing services.

    • 15. Is reusable equipment handled and stored properly (Critical)?
      • Dirty clippers and hair tools were observed at work stations throughout the salon. Dirty towels were observed on the counter in the waxing room
    • 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
      • Barbicide low level disinfectant was being used to disinfect hair tools. The containers were not being filled so that the tools were full immersed. Clippercide was available onsite for disinfecting electric clippers
    • 21. Is equipment that is intended to be sterile maintained sterile at the point of use?
      • Pre-packaged piercing jewelry was expired, and several packages were opened and no longer considered sterile.
    • 26. Are cosmetic products appropriate for their intended use and being handled properly?
      • Containers of Gigi waxing products were covered in wax and dust.
    • 27. Is the facility maintained in a visibly clean state and are environmental surfaces cleaned and disinfected properly?
      • Overall sanitation of the facility was poor:-Dust and hair observed on surfaces throughout the salon including at many of the workstations-All three hair sinks were visibly dirty-The wax room sink was visibly dirty-The customer coffee stations were covered in dust and debris. The sugar container was being topped up (two types of sugar observed) and the glass container was dirty
    • 32. Are general nuisance conditions, other than those noted in other violations, being prevented at this personal services facility (Critical)?
      • Two plunger-style piercing guns were observed onsite and are not acceptable for use as they cannot be adequately cleaned and disinfected. Discontinue use. Inverness cartridge style system also observed onsite. The cartridge style system is acceptable as long as it is used according to manufacturer's instructions.
