Inspection summary

Greata Ranch Vineyards has been inspected 4 times by Interior Health Authority since May 8, 2014. The most recent inspection, on May 1, 2025, recorded 2 infractions.

2 of 4 inspections on record found no infractions at all. No inspections are on record from the past 12 months. The higher-risk findings here relate to: Cleaning and sanitizing, Handwashing and staff hygiene and Protecting food from contamination.

Recent inspections have recorded more infractions than earlier ones, so it is worth reading the latest reports closely.

What these findings mean

Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.

  • Cleaning and sanitizingHigher risk

Anything that touches food, such as cutting boards, dishes and utensils, must be washed, rinsed and sanitized. Inspectors check dishwasher temperatures, sanitizer strength and how wiping cloths are stored. Poor sanitizing lets bacteria survive from one use to the next.

Recorded once on May 1, 2025. For example: 3 Are food contact surfaces, utensils and equipment washed and sanitized in a manner that removes/prevents contamination?

  • Handwashing and staff hygieneHigher risk

Hands are the main way germs like norovirus move from people to food. Inspectors look for stocked, accessible handwashing sinks, staff washing hands when required, hair restraints, and sick employees being kept away from food. Gaps here can spread illness quickly.

Recorded once on May 1, 2025. For example: 7 Are there handwashing stations available and properly supplied?

  • Protecting food from contaminationHigher risk

This covers how food is stored, prepared and displayed: raw meat kept away from ready-to-eat food, food covered and stored off the floor, and nothing dripping or splashing into it. Cross-contamination from raw to cooked food is a direct route for salmonella and E. coli.

Recorded once on June 20, 2023. For example: 5 Are the premises and equipment properly maintained and operated in a sanitary manner (i.e. ongoing maintenance)?

Fitzpatrick Family Vineyards was the perfect first stop on our drive to Penticton, and what an incredible way to start our Okanagan wine tour! From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by the stunning setting. The winery overlooks Okanagan Lake, and the views are absolutely breathtaking. Between the beautifully maintained vineyard, elegant atmosphere, and peaceful surroundings, we found ourselves just taking it all in. Pictures honestly don't do this place justice. The wines were exceptional. Every tasting was well presented, and you can really appreciate the quality and craftsmanship that goes into every bottle. It's easy to see why Fitzpatrick has such an outstanding reputation. After our tasting, we had lunch at the bistro, and it was just as impressive. The food was fresh, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. Pairing an amazing meal with world-class wine while overlooking the lake made for an unforgettable experience. If you're planning to visit wineries in Summerland, Fitzpatrick should be at the very top of your list. Between the spectacular views, incredible wines, outstanding food, and relaxing atmosphere, it was easily one of the highlights of our entire Okanagan trip. We can't wait to come back!

My visit to Fitzpatrick Winery was a wonderful experience from start to finish. The setting is absolutely beautiful, with stunning views that make you want to linger and enjoy every sip. The wines themselves were excellent, and the rosé in particular seemed especially special this year. Unfortunately, I didn’t write down the name and the bottle has already been enjoyed, but it was memorable enough that I’m still thinking about it. What truly elevated the experience, however, was our wine educator, Barb. Her knowledge was impressive, but what stood out even more was her ability to communicate it in an engaging and sincere way. She taught us about the key components that create balance in wine—acid, tannin, alcohol, sugar, and fruit—and helped us understand how to identify characteristics such as hollow, sharp, shrill, or flabby wines. Rather than feeling like a lecture, it felt like a fascinating conversation that deepened our appreciation for what we were tasting. Barb’s passion for wine was obvious, and her genuine enthusiasm made the tasting both educational and enjoyable. I left with a greater understanding of wine and a deeper appreciation for the craftsmanship behind it. Highly recommended for both wine enthusiasts and those who simply want to enjoy great wine, great views, and exceptional hospitality.

This was my second visit to the Fitz Vineyard, which should help one understand it is worth returning for. It was originally recommended by a server from another vineyard as their go-to spot. And that alone is amazing to hear, places speaking highly of one another, rather than competing against each other. The views from the patio are fabulous. The staff are professional and highly knowledgeable; special shout out to Barb and Kam for contributing to our second lovely experience here. We sadly missed the opportunity to try the restaurant as that part of the venue was booked out for a wedding (which looked like it would be a perfect spot and was beautifully decorated for). There was time for a private tour of the cellar and production area which is impressive for being a "little-guy" vineyard. Oh, and you get to hold a piece of history from the land that dates back sixty million years; cannonball lava rock from an erupted volcano. We'll definitely be returning here on the next Okanagan visit!

This is our favorite winery, whether it is celebrating a special occassion, looking for a great pizza and a glass of wine, or bringing guests for a wine tasting and some breathtaking photos. The wine is superb, some of the best in the Okanagan and the staff are incredibly well informed and work extremely hard to ensure you are having a fantastic experience. They have a restaurant on one side with fire grilled pizza, salads and casual dining and the wine tasting and patio. The view from Greata is the most beautiful part of the experience, there are many beautiful wineries but the unobstructed view while sitting out on the patio feels like you are at a private resort. Whether you are just staying for a tasting and a tour of the grounds or having lunch or dinner this is an unforgetable experience.

We absolutely love this winery! We only wish their wines were available in Vancouver. Their white and sparkling wines are truly unique&elegant, distinctive, and unlike anything we’ve tasted elsewhere. When we visited in 2024, heavy snow and freezing weather limited our tasting. This year, thanks to Connie, we were able to taste many more and ended up buying a full case of amazing wines! Riesling is our favorite, but the Pinot Blanc is also fantastic! 🍷✨
