Inspection summary

Grubstake Food Mart has been inspected once by Interior Health Authority, on December 3, 2025. The most recent inspection, on December 3, 2025, recorded 4 infractions.

In the past 12 months there was 1 inspection with 4 infractions recorded. The higher-risk findings here relate to: Food temperature control, Pests and Protecting food from contamination.

What these findings mean

Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.

  • Food temperature controlHigher risk

Bacteria multiply fastest between about 4 °C and 60 °C (40 °F to 140 °F). Inspectors check that cold food stays cold, hot food stays hot, cooked food is cooled quickly, and that staff have accurate thermometers. Temperature problems are one of the most common causes of food poisoning, so these are treated as critical findings.

Recorded once on December 3, 2025. For example: 2 Are proper temperature controls maintained to ensure safe storage and display of foods?

  • PestsHigher risk

Signs of mice, rats, cockroaches or flies, or gaps and clutter that let them get in or hide. Pests carry bacteria and can contaminate food and surfaces, so evidence of activity is treated seriously and usually triggers a follow-up visit.

Recorded once on December 3, 2025. For example: 2 Are proper pest control measures in place on the premises?

  • Protecting food from contaminationHigher risk

This covers how food is stored, prepared and displayed: raw meat kept away from ready-to-eat food, food covered and stored off the floor, and nothing dripping or splashing into it. Cross-contamination from raw to cooked food is a direct route for salmonella and E. coli.

Recorded once on December 3, 2025. For example: 5 Are the premises and equipment properly maintained and operated in a sanitary manner (i.e. ongoing maintenance)?

  • Handwashing and staff hygieneHigher risk

Hands are the main way germs like norovirus move from people to food. Inspectors look for stocked, accessible handwashing sinks, staff washing hands when required, hair restraints, and sick employees being kept away from food. Gaps here can spread illness quickly.

Recorded once on December 3, 2025. For example: 7 Are there handwashing stations available and properly supplied?

Warm, understanding, and genuinely kind customer service! I went to Grubstake Foodmart, last night, in a hurry and accidentally picked up a packet of cereal from the clearance section without noticing the expiration date. Today morning, before opening it, I realized the mistake and returned to the store hoping for a replacement. The cashier greeted me with a warm smile and patiently listened to my situation. When I admitted I had grabbed it from the clearance aisle because I was rushing, he simply said, “No problem brother, it’s okay,” and happily replaced the cereal for me without any hesitation. In a world where customer service often feels rushed or indifferent, this small act of kindness and understanding really stood out. It’s clear this store values its customers and treats them like neighbors. Thank you Grubstake Foodmart for the great service and goodwill — I’ll definitely be back! Highly recommend this store.

I've been to Grubstake Market for fresh vegetables, and the quality has always been top-notch. Even if there's an occasional imperfection, they clearly label it and reduce the price accordingly. Their celery is consistently crisp and delicious. It's reassuring to know there's a place where you can rely on quality produce without any surprises.

Way over priced even for a small town market, it was well over 38°C inside (can’t be good for the food products), grumpy dude at checkout. Unpleasant place

Positive things: Located centrally in Cache Creek. Easy and quick access. The staff here are always welcoming and ready to help. They have most of the basic goods for everyday life. Negative things: Limited selection compared to the larger stores in city. (Mainly lack of fresh meat items) Prices are high, of course we cannot compare with the big cities. Overall, It may not have everything you’d find in a Walmart, but its convenience, friendly service, and range of daily necessities make it an invaluable resource for residents.
