Inspection summary

Hector's Casa Mexican Restaurant has been inspected 5 times by Interior Health Authority since October 5, 2021. The most recent inspection, on June 24, 2026, recorded 2 infractions.

None of the 5 inspections on record were free of infractions. In the past 12 months there was 1 inspection with 2 infractions recorded. The higher-risk findings here relate to: Cleaning and sanitizing, Protecting food from contamination and Handwashing and staff hygiene.

Recent inspections have recorded more infractions than earlier ones, so it is worth reading the latest reports closely.

What these findings mean

Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.

  • Cleaning and sanitizingHigher risk

Anything that touches food, such as cutting boards, dishes and utensils, must be washed, rinsed and sanitized. Inspectors check dishwasher temperatures, sanitizer strength and how wiping cloths are stored. Poor sanitizing lets bacteria survive from one use to the next.

Recorded 3 times across 3 separate inspections, most recently on June 24, 2026. For example: 3 Are food contact surfaces, utensils and equipment washed and sanitized in a manner that removes/prevents contamination?

  • Protecting food from contaminationHigher risk

This covers how food is stored, prepared and displayed: raw meat kept away from ready-to-eat food, food covered and stored off the floor, and nothing dripping or splashing into it. Cross-contamination from raw to cooked food is a direct route for salmonella and E. coli.

Recorded 2 times across 2 separate inspections, most recently on January 10, 2023. For example: 7 Are foods protected from contamination?

  • Handwashing and staff hygieneHigher risk

Hands are the main way germs like norovirus move from people to food. Inspectors look for stocked, accessible handwashing sinks, staff washing hands when required, hair restraints, and sick employees being kept away from food. Gaps here can spread illness quickly.

Recorded once on August 26, 2025. For example: 7 Are there handwashing stations available and properly supplied?

  • Permits, records and postingLower risk

Operating permits, required signage, written procedures and logs. These findings are administrative: the documentation was missing or out of date at the time of inspection.

Recorded once on June 24, 2026. For example: 1 Does the operator have a valid operating permit or approval to operate?

  • Food safety training and certificationLower risk

Most jurisdictions require a certified food handler or manager on site, and some require allergen or food-worker training. These findings mean the paperwork or the trained person was missing at the time. They do not by themselves mean food was handled unsafely.

Recorded once on August 26, 2025. For example: 5 Are the FOODSAFE training requirements being met?

The atmosphere was lovely, like being in Mexico! Although we found the music to be slightly annoying during our visit. The restaurant is clean and colorful. We ordered 2 double lime margaritas, they were weak and watery. The food was just ok. Somewhat flavorless, we added alot of Valencia and salt to make up for it. Portions are nothing to rave about, we didnt leave hungry, but didnt have any leftovers. Service was quick and friendly, no complaints. Overall , we would just rate this place as OK.

A truly authentic experience filled with amazing hospitality, great food, and outstanding atmosphere. The flavours of each dish were vibrant, and the real fruit margaritas were to die for! Can’t believe we were the only guests in here today, everyone needs to come try this place out!

Fabulous! I don't usually eat meat or dairy, but very thoroughly enjoyed the chicken fajitas. Not sure what another reviewer was saying about small servings and high prices. I could only finish less than 3/4 of my meal and it was only $25. Enough for dinner and lunch tomorrow. Another reviewer correctly said the food wasn't spicy. But the hot sauces on the table added delicious heat. I will definitely be back.

Delicious !!! Mole fajitas was superb! The other (sorry can't recall name) but they were sooo cheesy ! Loved them. Would recommend the bandanos for starter. Friendly and attentive staff, with cool vibe

It was my first time visiting this place. The restaurant is very well decorated. I ordered beef enchiladas which I really enjoyed. The rice came with it was okay. Service was attentive and friendly. I would come back again to try other dishes.
