    • 02. Has the operator notified the RHA of the existence of a personal service business, including contact and location information, as well as all personal services currently offered or new personal services that will be offered for facilities and/or special events?
      • The operator failed to notify Alberta Health Services (AHS) regarding the change of ownership. The operator was instructed to submit a new Personal Services Notification through the AHS website.
    • 03. Are facility-specific written procedures established to adequately describe safe and sanitary practices?
      • Written documents were not available upon request of the PHI, regarding skin preparation, post-service care, and client care.
    • 13. Is single-use or uncleanable equipment being used as intended (Critical)?
      • A bulk supply container of wax was found without a lid, and a used waxing stick was left inside the container on the staff cart. Waxing sticks are intended for single use only.
    • 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
      • The operator was observed using a low-level disinfectant to clean pedicure basins. The operator was instructed to use a high-level disinfectant, which they had on site (Preempt-RTU). The operator was instructed to disinfect all pedicure basins with the new high-level disinfectant while observed by PHI.

      • When operator was told to use high level disinfectant for pedicure basins, they were observed to not meet the required contact time for disinfection (3 min). The operator was informed to follow the manufacturer's instructions regarding proper contact time to ensure effective disinfection
    • 26. Are cosmetic products appropriate for their intended use and being handled properly?
      • Unlabeled chemical bottles were found on the staff cart, and an unlabeled powdered container was present at the nail stations.

Online link to AHS template package was provided with the inspection report to be completed.Ensure the specific written procedures are completed and available in the facility for review during public health inspections.

      • Staff explained that they were washing semi-critical tools with soap and water, soaking for 20 minutes in undiluted CS20, then washing with soap and water again, then putting tools into the steam sterilizer. CS20 manufacturer's directions state that products should be washed, rinsed, dried, soaked in undiluted CS20 for 20 minutes, rinsed, then dried. Please discontinue the use of soap after disinfection.

      • Electrical outlet cover was missing at the public washroom.Fix the electrical outlet cover.
