Inspection summary

Highway 97 Brewing Co. has been inspected 3 times by Interior Health Authority since December 15, 2021. The most recent inspection, on June 4, 2025, recorded 2 infractions.

None of the 3 inspections on record were free of infractions. No inspections are on record from the past 12 months. The higher-risk findings here relate to: Food temperature control, Cleaning and sanitizing and Protecting food from contamination.

What these findings mean

Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.

  • Food temperature controlHigher risk

Bacteria multiply fastest between about 4 °C and 60 °C (40 °F to 140 °F). Inspectors check that cold food stays cold, hot food stays hot, cooked food is cooled quickly, and that staff have accurate thermometers. Temperature problems are one of the most common causes of food poisoning, so these are treated as critical findings.

Recorded 2 times across 2 separate inspections, most recently on May 8, 2024. For example: 3 Are proper cooling and reheating procedures followed?

  • Cleaning and sanitizingHigher risk

Anything that touches food, such as cutting boards, dishes and utensils, must be washed, rinsed and sanitized. Inspectors check dishwasher temperatures, sanitizer strength and how wiping cloths are stored. Poor sanitizing lets bacteria survive from one use to the next.

Recorded 2 times across 2 separate inspections, most recently on May 8, 2024. For example: 3 Are food contact surfaces, utensils and equipment washed and sanitized in a manner that removes/prevents contamination?

  • Protecting food from contaminationHigher risk

This covers how food is stored, prepared and displayed: raw meat kept away from ready-to-eat food, food covered and stored off the floor, and nothing dripping or splashing into it. Cross-contamination from raw to cooked food is a direct route for salmonella and E. coli.

Recorded once on June 4, 2025. For example: 7 Are foods protected from contamination?

  • Handwashing and staff hygieneHigher risk

Hands are the main way germs like norovirus move from people to food. Inspectors look for stocked, accessible handwashing sinks, staff washing hands when required, hair restraints, and sick employees being kept away from food. Gaps here can spread illness quickly.

Recorded once on May 8, 2024. For example: 7 Are there handwashing stations available and properly supplied?

  • Permits, records and postingLower risk

Operating permits, required signage, written procedures and logs. These findings are administrative: the documentation was missing or out of date at the time of inspection.

Recorded 3 times across 2 separate inspections, most recently on May 8, 2024. For example: 3 Are written food handling procedures (Food Safety Plan) current and available on site?

Stopped at Cannery Brewing for lunch and a flight board, then headed across the street to Highway 97 Brewing for another flight and a growler. Good spot for a quick brewery hop. Didn’t try the food here this time, but I’ll check out the menu next visit.

Beer was really good. We stopped by close to closing time - 35 mins and wanted to have quick flights. When asked "are you still open" got "no we're closing". When asked about quick flights (usually you finish those in 10mins) the lady finally took as in but we didnt really feel welcome. We've had visited more than 100 breweries so even though the beer was good we have to rate the staff as well. 3stars now maybe will come back again and it will be 5. Thanks

What an absolute treat !! Roberta greeted us and treated us with a charm and familiarity that felt like home. All the beer offerings were super tasty... buuuut the coup de grâce was the Nachos. The absolute best nachos we've ever had. Pulled pork sprinkled all over top quality taco chips. in addition to all the fixins ; cheese, queso, salsa, black beans, corn, pickled onions... the list goes on... it's Nachos... but the attention to detail, flavours and portion size was great... ding ding .. new nacho champ! Thank you Roberta and team.

We stopped in recently and were really impressed with the latest beers coming out of Highway 97 Brewery. The new releases are absolutely delicious—great balance, lots of flavour, and clearly brewed with care. One of the hazy styles we tried had fantastic tropical notes and a really smooth finish. The overall beer selection is excellent and there’s something for everyone. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, and the staff were friendly and happy to talk about the beers. Definitely one of our favourite spots in Penticton for a pint.

Friendly staff. Really nice to have a dog friendly brewery. We had the pilsner and lime lager both delish. Beef dip and quesadilla were good
