Inspection summary
Hot Bread Shoppe has been inspected 2 times by Interior Health Authority since February 12, 2025. The most recent inspection, on February 12, 2026, recorded 3 infractions.
None of the 2 inspections on record were free of infractions. In the past 12 months there was 1 inspection with 3 infractions recorded. The higher-risk findings here relate to: Protecting food from contamination, Handwashing and staff hygiene and Cleaning and sanitizing.
What these findings mean
Health authorities word their violations differently, so we group them by what they mean for food safety. Higher-risk findings are the ones inspectors treat as critical, because they can directly make someone sick.
Protecting food from contaminationHigher risk
This covers how food is stored, prepared and displayed: raw meat kept away from ready-to-eat food, food covered and stored off the floor, and nothing dripping or splashing into it. Cross-contamination from raw to cooked food is a direct route for salmonella and E. coli.
Recorded 2 times across 2 separate inspections, most recently on February 12, 2026. For example:
5 Are the premises and equipment properly maintained and operated in a sanitary manner (i.e. ongoing maintenance)?
Handwashing and staff hygieneHigher risk
Hands are the main way germs like norovirus move from people to food. Inspectors look for stocked, accessible handwashing sinks, staff washing hands when required, hair restraints, and sick employees being kept away from food. Gaps here can spread illness quickly.
Recorded once on February 12, 2026. For example:
7 Are there handwashing stations available and properly supplied?
Cleaning and sanitizingHigher risk
Anything that touches food, such as cutting boards, dishes and utensils, must be washed, rinsed and sanitized. Inspectors check dishwasher temperatures, sanitizer strength and how wiping cloths are stored. Poor sanitizing lets bacteria survive from one use to the next.
Recorded once on February 12, 2025. For example:
3 Are food contact surfaces, utensils and equipment washed and sanitized in a manner that removes/prevents contamination?
Other findingsLower risk
Findings that do not fit the categories above, such as follow-ups that confirm an earlier violation was corrected, or requirements specific to this type of facility.
Recorded once on February 12, 2026. For example:
1 Does the facility have proper monitoring supplies?

I always get my baked treats from this lovely little shop. Everything is always fresh and delicious and you can definitely taste the quality of the ingredients. Shayla made my wedding cake, cupcakes and sugars cookies that were my favors for my guest. She did so good, not only was Everything beautiful but tasted just as delicious. We could see the time shalya took to make everything taste and look beautiful for our special day. Thanks so much ❤️

Honestly they’re always sold out, very hard to get what you want. So I made a pre order for a birthday. Morning of get told it’s been sold. So can’t rate the food as it’s been impossible to support this business but the service isn’t great. Being told “hope you figure it out” the morning of a planned birthday is 0/10 from me. 1 star because they said they have danishes they can set aside for me…. Uhh no thanks when I ordered a specialty pie to feed a crowd.

A wee gem of a bakery in the heart of downtown Vernon with a lovely assortments of bread and cakes. The interior decor was tasteful and modern with well thought out pieces. I wanted to try every baked good upon entry. The place smelled delicious with fresh bread and hints of cinnamon. I purchased a cheese roll, bread pudding and a load of the cinnamon bread. All were exquisite from savory to sweet. The cinnamon raisin bread made delightful french toast!!! I was hoping to get a loaf of sour dough, I arrive late afternoon on a Saturday and they were all sold out. Highly recommend stopping in and spoiling yourself with a tasty treat!

It was my first time shopping here. It is right next to the Thai restaurant. The counter faces the door so the cashier immediately greets you. I bought a fresh cinammon roll for $5 after taxes. It's a big roll, but not enormous. The roll tasted really good when I got home. It was fresh and sticky. Five dollars may seem steep for a single cinammon roll, but if you have a few extra dollars when walking through downtown Vernon this summer, this place is definitely worth a stop.

This place is such a gem! The staff were super friendly and the atmosphere was great. Just being in the room smelled wonderful and everything I got tastes great. Lots of yummy looking options and they were super patient when I had trouble chosing. The cinnamon buns looks just as amazing in person as they do in photos
