    • 03. Are facility-specific written procedures established to adequately describe safe and sanitary practices?
      • Written procedures were not complete for cleansing of the skin, accidental cut/puncture, and post-service care following an accidental cut/puncture could not be reviewed. Written procedures must be readily available to review. An AHS written procedure template was provided to the operator. Complete the written procedures.
    • 17. Is reusable equipment cleaned properly (Critical)?
      • Several round brushes were observed with many strands of hair. The round brushes should be cleaned between clients. Remove the hair and disinfect. Avoid storing the brushes with other clean brushes until it has been disinfected.

      • Tools were not maintained in good repair:- Nail brush had leftover product that hardened and is no longer easy to clean and disinfect. - The wooden handle of the nail brush was in disrepairTools must be maintained in good repair to ensure proper cleaning and disinfection. Replace the nail brush.

      • No high-level disinfectant records are available.Records that document the testing of the high-level disinfectant must be completed and maintained onsite for review.An AHS template was provided to the operator
    • 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
      • The operator is reusing the high-level disinfectant solution for more than a day. Test strips are not available. Test strips are required to confirm the concentration of the disinfectant to ensure reusable equipment is disinfected properly. Please obtain.
    • 33. Are general nuisance conditions, other than those noted in other violations, being prevented at this personal services facility (Non-Critical)?
      • There is buildup of cut strands of hair in the pouch where scissors are stored. Clean tools should be stored in a manner that protects it from contamination. Regularly clean and disinfect the pouch. Please clean.

      • The operator is offering nail treatments and a notification to Alberta Health Services was not submitted. As of 2020, personal service operators must submit a notification to Alberta Health Services to notify existing and new services that are offered.       • The high-level disinfectant is expired. Semi-critical tools are not adequately disinfected. An expired high-level disinfectant should not be used as proper disinfection cannot be guaranteed. Obtain a high-level disinfectant.

      • Barbicide was available onsite. However, did not observe any tools being immersed in the barbicide for disinfection. Some round brushes in few stations had hair on them, Please ensure the following:- Tools such as hair combs are disinfected properly. - Manufacturer's instruction is used to mix and change Barbicide on a regular basis. - Combs are cleaned thoroughly before immersing in barbicide.
    • 32. Are general nuisance conditions, other than those noted in other violations, being prevented at this personal services facility (Critical)?
      • The facility is using bleach solution to disinfect surfaces. Please use a low-level disinfectant for the surfaces.
