      • Written procedures for cleansing skin are required for the following services: -eyelash extension-eyelash tinting
    • 05. Are written procedures reviewed and revised when required, and do they meet the requirements set out in the standards?
      • Written procedures must meet the requirements set out in the standards.
    • 10. Is cleansing and antisepsis of skin and mucous membrane performed in accordance to written procedures and are suitable products being used?
      • 1. Obtain a skin cleanser for the following services: body waxing, eyelash tinting, eyelash extension.
    • 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
      • A larger HLD tray is required for full immersion of the large metal foot files. Obtain a container (plastic/glass) with a lid that is large enough to fully soak the large metal foot files.
    • 24. Are waste sharps disposed of properly?
      • Credo blades are being used for pedicure services. A sharps container is needed – please ensure one is available with a tight-fitting lid.
    • 26. Are cosmetic products appropriate for their intended use and being handled properly?
      • Numerous cosmetic products at the manicure and/or pedicure stations were not properly labelled. Ensure all products (i.e. pedicure scrubs, spray bottles etc.) are labelled with its contents. Label decanted products and keep original/bulk supplies at the facility. The original/bulk supply must be labelled with product identity, manufacturer, directions for use and/or list of ingredients.

      • Facility does not have any of the required facility-specific written procedures in place.
    • 05. Are written procedures reviewed and revised when required, and do they meet the requirements set out in the standards?
      • Written procedures must meet the requirements set out in the standards.
    • 06. Do operators and personal services workers comply with the Personal Services Regulation and Standards and do they have the skills and knowledge to perform their duties in a safe and sanitary manner?
      • Discussed regulatory requirements. All personal services workers are required to review and ensure compliance with the current Personal Services Regulation and the Personal Services Standards. New legislation is proposed for June 30, 2025.
    • 08. Is hand hygiene performed by the personal services worker when required, in a proper manner and are provisions available to perform hand hygiene?
      • Paper towels were provided at the hand sink in wax room #1 at the time of inspection.

      • The alcohol-based hand rub (ABHR) was expired. Ensure staff are performing hand hygiene using soap/water. Obtain ABHR if desired. Alcohol based hand rub (ABHR) can be used if hands are visibly clean. The ABHR alcohol-based must have an alcohol content between 60 to 90%, have an NPN or DIN issued by Health Canada and not be expired.

      • 1. Obtain a skin cleanser for the following services: waxing, eyelash tinting, eyelash extension, microneedling, facial extractions, microblading.2. The antiseptic alcohol prep pads were expired. Discard expired products and obtain an antiseptic for the following services: microblading, microneedling. Ensure the antiseptic has an "antiseptic claim", "NPN" or "DIN" and is not expired.3Ensure cleansing and antisepsis of skin and mucous membrane are performed in accordance to written procedures and ensure suitable products are being used.
    • 13. Is single-use or uncleanable equipment being used as intended (Critical)?
      • 1. Nail files observed at the manicure tables were in a used condition. 2. There were orange nail buffers in the UV sterilizer bin.Please be reminded of the requirement to discard single-use equipment such as foam/cardboard nail files, buffing blocks, toe separators, cardboard covers for rotary nail drill bits etc. These items must be discarded after each client use.
    • 20. Is reusable equipment disinfected properly?
      • 1. Purchase a high-level disinfectant (i.e. PreEmpt CS20 or HLD5).2. Purchase proper indicator test strips. If using PreEmpt CS20, buy AHP7 indicator test strips. If using PreEmpt HLD5, buy AHP2 indicator test strips.3. High-level disinfectant logs are not being maintained. A high-level disinfectant log must be kept for each high-level disinfectant tray used. It is recommended that only 1 high-level disinfectant tray be used. Ensure it is large enough to fully soak the large metal foot files.4. The PreEmpt RTU bottles at the pedicure stations had worn labels. Label information could not be verified. Obtain new PreEmpt RTU disinfectant and ensure bottles are properly labelled.
    • 21. Is equipment that is intended to be sterile maintained sterile at the point of use?
      • 1. Some of the blades used for microblading services were missing sterility assurance information. Please discard.2. The needles used for microneedling services were missing sterility assurance information. Please discard.3. The metal comedone loop used for facial extractions has a needle point. This tool is not permitted - please remove this tool from the facility. Obtain a comedone loop with only loop-type of feature, if desired.
    • 26. Are cosmetic products appropriate for their intended use and being handled properly?
      • 1. Numerous cosmetic products used for facial services were improperly labelled. Discard and/or remove any improperly labeled cosmetic products from the facility.2. An eyelash extension-related cosmetic product was missing a label. Discard this product.3. Refectocil tints used for eyelash & eyebrow tinting services were missing label information. Boxes are required to be kept as they contain additional information needed.4. Numerous cosmetic products at the manicure and/or pedicure stations were not properly labelled. Ensure all products (i.e. pedicure scrubs, spray bottles etc.) are labelled with its contents. Label decanted products and keep original/bulk supplies at the facility. The original/bulk supply must be labelled with product identity, manufacturer, directions for use and/or list of ingredients.
